Apple responds to Nepal earthquake by soliciting Red Cross donations via iTunes

earthquake

With well over 3,000 confirmed deaths in Saturday’s devastating earthquake in Nepal, Apple is inviting iTunes users to donate to the American Red Cross. The appeal allows donations from $5 to $200, with 100% of the funds donated being passed anonymously to the Red Cross …

As the time of writing, the confirmed death toll in the disaster was 3,617, many other having seen their homes destroyed.

As most iTunes users already have a credit card linked to their account, it’s a particularly quick and easy way to donate.

Apple has responded in the same way to a number of previous disasters, including Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the earthquake in Haiti and, of course, Hurricane Sandy. Apple also invited donations for cancer research organization City of Hope in 2014.

Thanks, Hirsxh

Can you, please, point us to the exact location in iTunes where these donations are collected (I seem to have some difficulty finding my way in the iTunes store…)? Thanks, Panos Tsapralis, Athens, GREECE.

People can donate to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund (India) and Chief Ministers’ Relief Funds (India) and other charitable funds which are established to help people in need.

    • Not sure if India have such funds established otherwise there is direct relief fund of Nepal government called “Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund”. In addition server internation organizations are working on ground level including OXFAM-America, Word Food Program USA-Nepal, Red Cross. Please make sure you select Nepal earthquake fund to be specific.

I was hoping to see Apple support it by matching funds, not just by being willing to collect our money for the Red Cross.

Note: You won’t get a tax receipt because it’s anonymized. So if you do want it to be a tax deductible donation, you can donate directly to the Red Cross on their website.

Not so, it shows right in the screenshot you get both an email receipt and it on your credit card statement that you donated.
