Apple shows employees lighter side of Steve Jobs in wake of upcoming negative movies

ABC published some out-takes from a video Apple provided it showing Steve Jobs in the run up to the iPhone launch and at other times later in his tenure at Apple that depict his lighter, more humanistic side. Apple has previously worked with ABC, providing Tim Cook airtime to discuss both Apple and Steve Jobs a year ago.

The move by Apple is likely in response to two negative movies that portray the Apple cofounder in an arguably negative light; these are hitting theaters this month. The release of these clips follow up on Apple executives posting positive essays about Jobs in recent days on Apple’s website for employees.

Steve Jobs’s own wife, Laurene Powell Jobs, even reportedly tried to stop the Sorkin movie from launching, but she never publicly confirmed these attempts. Former Apple colleagues such as Andy Hertzfeld have said that the movie “deviates from reality everywhere,” while the movie’s producers stress they “made a good movie.”

The Steve Jobs movie, based on Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography, goes on limited release in theaters on October 9th and general release on October 23rd.

I mean… it’s a leaked video that is shown on a news channel… they aren’t going to spend the time showing you the whole probably hour or two long video.

  2. The video is not working for me. I can see just a black box, nothing else.

Too late. The trolls have won the day. They have managed to paint Jobs as a despot and a tyrant, an evil human being with no empathy, a narcissist to whom nothing matters except himself. Of course the people who worked with him know differently, especially Bill Gates. It is glaringly apparent that other tech CEOs try to emulate his management style and some even sought him out for mentoring. Take a good look at Microsoft’s show going on this very day about their new devices coming out. Everything is right out of Apple’s playbook as far as presentation is concerned.

There is always two sides to a coin. Also someone’s great qualities can always be there greatest weaknesses. Most of the early Apple crew was very upset with the way he treated Lisa and her mother. Jobs was not a saint. Jobs was a control freak and could show his workers no empathy.

Without being a control freak he wouldn’t put so much of a stamp on Apple after he returned from Next. Jobs micro managed every part of Apple. His need for control shaped every product And service Apple released.

Isaacson’s book was based of of over 40 interviews with Steve and over a hundred ,friends, advisories, family members and Apple employees. Steve told people to be honest and open for the interviews. Steve knew is was flawed.

Agreed. But, that’s also why I liked “Becoming Steve Jobs” a lot more. It doesn’t shy away from the past and his mercurial nature, but definitely takes a view that people can change and very credibly shows a man who did evolve and could learn from his mistakes – both professionally and personally.

Here he’s talking to all his rich friends that he’d never raise his voice at. He talks about the Beatles whom inspired him whom were also excellent at avoiding taxes on their millions…

You’ve taken Andy Hertzfeld’s comment and stripped it of context to support your headline. Shame on you.

This would be better if the ABC News report would STFU!

“So interesting to see another side of Steve Jobs.”

Maybe they should make a movie. =|

  9. No one always just behaves in the same way nor is everyone always good or bad.

That guy was no exception, there’s no reason to vilify or glorify him.

If he’d put a new pair of jeans on it might’ve been a different story LOL
