Some users on Reddit and Twitter are reporting that iTunes and the App Store are down. Other are able to access normally, suggesting that the issue is either small-scale or intermittent. Apple’s status page is not yet showing an issue, though it is common for Apple to be very slow to update the page.
The issue doesn’t seem to be specific to any one country, with reports from the U.S., Europe and Asia (including me in the UK) …
The iTunes store is giving a ‘cannot complete your request’ message, while the App Store is proving unresponsive for those affected.
Apple’s online stores suffered a significant outage in August, affecting the App Store, iTunes, iBooks, the Mac App Store, and the Volume Purchase Program, with the iTunes store suffering a further outage last month.

US Government Hackers trying to make Apple provide a backdoor into the encryption on our iPhones? ;)
Down for me here in NL…(‘down’ meaning I can’t log in on OSX)
Forgot to add: the System Status page looks more like a marketing tool than a reflection on the status of their cloud systems. I friend of mine just wrote:
“iCloud is Apple’s Albatross. Just me: but i would have at this very moment a skeleton crew on everything else at Apple other than Jony’s department… and they would ALL be working towards getting Cloud Services truly up to par… or better than Goog or MS. I also don’t think they need to buy anything, although if need maybe hiring or “renting” (IBM?) a talented lead engineer in the Bob Mansfield style. This “roll-out” is taking far too long for the measly functions it’s serving at the moment. All IMHO.”
To which I replied:
“Not really humble, but, fortunately, I agree wholeheartedly. I can understand the difficulty in creating these ‘cloud solutions’ and they have many (50! on their /support/systemstatus page) and it all needs scalability, backup, shortest route, synching, whathaveyounot, yes, difficult. But right now my OSX iTunes cannot log in to the App Store. Just an example, may be isolated, though it worked fine yesterday”
Apple needs to hire a. SVP who just runs Apple’s cloud services. And throw in Siri and Maps too. Eddy Cue obviously has too much on his plate. There’s so much work that needs to be done with iTunes and Apple Music, plus Apple’s professional software (it’s kind of sad that no first party software was shown off when Apple introduced iPad Pro). iTunes is a complete mess that needs to be redone from the ground up and Apple Music needs a ton of work as well. It makes me wonder, is Eddy Cue too proud to ask for help or does Tim Cook and the board not see these issues?
Tim did the right thing with Jony (and Bob Mansfield). He didn’t want to lose them due to burn out or retirement so he told them they could write their own ticket at Apple. He needs to deal with the rest of the company, especially the software and services side of the house. if Apple really is working on an electric vehicle their cloud services and mapping technology will need to be A LOT better than it is now.
belgium is ok
Belgium has always been ok¡
“Belgium. Great beer, shit government”
Since iOS 9 and OS X El Cap, I’ve found their services work better. The problems I’d had previously with Notes/Documents not syncing (or duplicating) are gone.
Other than reliability issues like the App Store going down, the biggest problem with iCloud is that it’s difficult to get content onto it. If you buy eBooks from third-party stores and keep them in iBooks on your devices, you can’t sync them via iCloud (not even at the expense of iCloud Document Storage). If you’ve ripped a CD you have to pay forever and ever and ever to keep the songs in iCloud (iTunes Match).
I’ve found so many problems in getting my Notes / Contacts / Calendars to sync across my iPhone / iPad / Mac / PC via iCloud. This has been the biggest disappointment to me since I moved to the Apple infrastructure / iCloud. It is especially noticeable with iCloud for the PC. If I understand Apple’s philosophy, my iCloud data is OS agnostic – yet I cannot get these programs to sync together reliably. I spent 2 hours yesterday cleaning up my Contacts and and Notes across my devices – and have found problems yet again this morning.
Tim – Please – Listen to the people and devote talent to cleaning up what you already have as opposed to innovating what you think we want!
