David Frampton of Majic Jungle provided us a copy of his upcoming Chopper 2 for Mac and we’re here to preview it for you. At first glance: wow. The game is spectacular and is a huge step from Chopper 1 for Mac. The graphics in Chopper 2 for Mac are phenomenal and are 3D (you’ll see what I mean in the video above). The controls are simple to use and the game is easy for anyone to pick up on. In fact, if you’ve played Chopper 2 for iOS the game play will be very familiar.
If you’re new to the Chopper game series the concept is very simple. You are flying a helicopter through the skies, going through several obstacles in order to pick up people on the ground. Some of these obstacles include birds, buildings, and of course mercenaries, rockets, and planes shooting at you. The game is particularly fun and with multiple levels you should never get bored. Chopper 2 includes three skill levels (normal, hard, and harder) and within those are several individual lands and maps. Each level has three lands and within those lands are three different maps, and within those maps are tons of levels to play through…
To get to the next map you must unlock certain achievements and complete certain goals. Chopper 2 for Mac also features a timer and a scoring system so you can play against your friends and see who ends up on top. A leaderboard is also kept in-app so you can track how you are doing and play levels over and over again until you get the kind of score and time you want. The game’s graphics are sharp and will constantly surprise you as you are moving around the different missions.
Game play is also incredibly smooth (Yes, there is a full screen mode) and the user controls are customizable meaning you can invert the Y axis and control the flight’s sensitivity. Speaking of controls, you can use your iOS device as the game’s controller! (video below) This feature in Chopper 2 is the game’s killer feature. After personally playing Chopper 2 with my iPhone I am still in awe. Chopper 2 in itself could be living room console material and when coupled with an iPhone or iPod touch as the remote you have a wonderful gaming experience.
Chopper 2 will be available on the Mac App Store at launch on January 6th 2011. Frampton told us the app will cost $4.99 but will launch at an undisclosed sale price! Be sure to check out our video walkthrough of the first couple levels above as well as the video of playing Chopper 2 with an iPhone as the controller below:
