On MacBooks, Nvidia, OpenCL and Snow Leopard

There appears some fuss and bother over the inability of the MacBook Pro (not pictured, incidentally) to harness the power of both its installed graphics processors simultaneously, but these complaints are missing a crucial point.

Inclusion of the Nvidia’s powerful GeForce 9400M isn’t just a performance enhancing move, but a critical future-proofing step. It is manufactured using the 65-nanometre process – comparison – a human hair is about 100 micrometres thick, over a thousand times thicker than the structure used in the GPU.

Research confirms Apple product strategy

A UK survey has revealed a bundle of interesting statistics concerning the so-called "iPod Generation", with the role of the TV declining in importance as we turn to the internet as the hub of our lives.

Apparently, half of the UK’s 18-24-year olds use social media to share their lives online more than they watch television, according to new research from Flip Video.

Over half (58 percent) of 18 to 24 year olds visit a social networking site every day with 42 percent of 25 to 34 year olds admitting the same frequency.

It could be that the day’s of TV dominance are declining, on news that 61 percent of 18 to 24 year olds and over half of 25 to 34 year olds spend more time online than watching TV.

Mac OS X 10.6.2 set to ship as latest dev beta seems bug-free

Apple developers are currently testing the latest pre-release beta, Mac OS X 10.6.2, and the good news is the software appears relatively bug-free, suggesting it may ship imminently.

There’s two big reasons Mac users are waiting for the new update to ship: Number one, it is required in order to use a Magic Mouse; Number two: it reportedly patches the dreaded Guest account data-munching bug that has caused such distress.

Apple conceded the existence of that bug earlier last week, after multiple reports complained of its existence.

iMovie is moving into the cloud…

Yep, it isn’t just iWork.  iMovie is moving into the Cloud as well.   As Stevo said:

The MobileMe launch clearly demonstrates that we have more to learn about Internet services.  And learn we will.  The vision of MobileMe is both exciting and ambitious, and we will press on to make it a service we are all proud of by the end of this year.
