The battle for cloud-based music services takes a new twist this week with Google’s move to begin testing YouTube as a live video streaming platform.

The company reveals it has been working with a range of partners including the White House, E3 and the Indian Premier League. Also — in yet another twist of fate — former Apple iPod video stars, U2, are listed as working with Google on the new service.

Day two of the test begins today at 8am, PT, when YouTube will begin testing a new live streaming platform in conjunction with: Howcast, Next New Networks, Rocketboom and Young Hollywood.

All broadcasters need is a webcam or external USB/FireWire camera. Included in the test is a “Live Comments” module which lets you engage with the broadcaster and the broader YouTube community.

Google is running the test in order to evaluate the service with a view to a global roll-out of the service.
