Apple’s latest OS X Mavericks Developer Preview includes iBooks for Mac, according to tips from developers who have installed the new beta. The new iBooks app looks in line with what Apple showcased at WWDC earlier this year.
When you launch the app, your iBooks content from iTunes will be migrated over. Users are also given the option to login to their Apple ID to sync their iBooks collection from/with iCloud.
iBooks for Mac includes the same Collections, PDF reading, and other books functionality from the iOS version (except for the wooden bookshelf design). More screenshots and a video below:

I wish one could put other ebooks and PDF’s in the cloud.
I have PDF’s i have to read for school and work, but i love working in the cloud on my Mac Mini and iPhone/iPad Mini that i wish i didn’t need it to be physically on said device (like my mac) taking up storage. id be fine with it on my iPad Mini (but not gone if it had to be restored)
That app is really quite terrible, visually at least. I want the wood back, dammit!
Doesn’t show my purchases so far, or any synced iCloud content.
I just have one thing to say — FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!! After all these years of asking Apple to make iBooks for Mac OS X — they FINALLY have listened to end users… FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!
I see the ‘category selection’ at the top is a ‘pill-style’ with rounded corners. This makes is completely different to iTunes, the App Store and everything else.
So much for Apple fixing UI consistency in their software.
I will really miss the wood bookshelf and the flipping page animation. iBooks should be the only exception from this Ive’s cleanup. It’s just beautiful and cool to use. What a shame…
iBooks does not handle PDF’s very well yet opens them in preview – in fact the latest Mavericks beta 5 feels less stable than beta 4
Can you confirm that *fixed layout* EPUB3 is also supported? Sample file on iBooks here https://itun.es/gb/EdJwJ.l or as a download here http://www.circularsoftware.com/site/wp-content/uploads/download/CircularFLO_promo.epub
Thanks in advance.
Oh good, ibooks is coming to OS X. Is that the proper response in an age where Apple, Google and others meet in secret with POTUS Obama amid the news stream that the Government is spying on our every move? We must get excited about iBook coming to OS X while no outrage to the police state exposed. What a bunch of ridiculous bullshit.
I will be definitely very happy for iBooks, but as others stated, with its original looks please!
