Apple loses top North America sales VP Zane Rowe, Japan & Korea sales head Doug Beck to subsume role

Just hours after disclosing the upcoming retirement of Communications VP Katie Cotton, Apple has disclosed that Vice President of Sales for North America is, too, leaving Apple. Apple VP Doug Beck, who currently runs sales for Japan and Korea, will add North America to his portfolio of responsibilities. Apple told the WSJ:

“Doug Beck has done a great job helping to grow Apple’s business in Japan and Korea. His role is expanding to include North America sales as well,” said Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet.

Rowe joined Apple approximately two years ago after being the long-time CFO of United Continental Airlines. The reasoning behind Rowe’s departure is not currently known. Perhaps he was not pleased about being passed over for the Apple CFO job. Or perhaps it has to do with North America sales numbers being slightly down last quarter, with numbers in other regions rising dramatically.

Rowe’s departure marks yet another significant Apple executive shift in recent months. Earlier this year, Vice President of Human Interface design Greg Christie, Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer, and Vice President of Operations Rita Lane all began transitioning into retirement. Late last year, Vice President of iOS Engineering Henri Lamiraux retired and Apple’s Bob Mansfield is scheduled to retire later this year.

Is he leaving or is he adding North America to his responsibilities? Such a confusing article. This is how it’s reported on WSJ though so 9to5 just continuing, not creating the confusion.
