The ridiculous Emoji-only messaging app Emojli officially launches

Following in the wake of services along the likes of Yo, the one-word messaging app, a new concept has emerged which is just as novel but also just as useless. In case you felt that sending emoji characters to your friends via text or SMS wasn’t restricted enough, you can now use Emojli to make sure your conversations are always condensed to just miniature pictures—no words allowed.

Yep, this app requires that every bit of communication you do is solely emoji-based. But not only does the app restrict you to emoji, but adding friends is especially confusing because usernames are just emoji too. Luckily, the app does use some amount of English to make sure you can do usual app functions like add friends, change your password, and log out without having to decrypt the menu options.

The service was first announced in June, and sign ups to reserve usernames opened around the same time. And now that the app is on the App Store, the team is sending out emails to everyone who successfully reserved a name containing an access code to finalize the claiming process. As for the app reaching other platforms, it’s uncertain at this point whether or not it will ever reach Android.

You can head over to the App Store to get Emojli for free, and good luck finding a username that’s shorter than 3 characters.
