These days I find it much easier to leave Office behind. There are so many good alternatives, including the Apple suite and OpenOffice and even Google Doc. Microsoft is on top only due to its history of being on top.
However I am still looking forward to the new Office. Microsoft does good work but their business choices have generally been 3rd rate for their customers experience.
No, thanks! iWork is my choice :-P
We have been using OpenOffice and iWork at my current job, and they are both limited in what they can actually accomplish. iWork can not have files attached to gmail without compressing or exporting, both more than most of my users can really comprehend. OpenOffice doesn’t open excel files with macros correctly. OpenOffice also messes up formatting for complex pages from Word.
Even WORD messes up formatting for complex pages from Word.
The only real offering of MS Office that Apple (and third parties) hasn’t made a great alternative for yet is Outlook. Exchange clients, in office/enterprise settings, with lots of shared calendars, really have no good options aside from Outlook. Especially if those settings are multiplatform.
Here’s to hoping Outlook sees some much needed improvement in early 2015!
