These are just great. Many thanks to Myithz for sending these in every few weeks. Today’s video shows that the actual building of the structure has started after the foundation had been completed last time we checked in mid October.
Apple Campus 2 has been called ‘Greenest in the World’. The controversial structure, which will house 12,000 staff in 2.8M square feet on 176 acres, is estimated to be completed in 2016. Interestingly, even though Apple is covering the construction site with a high green wall and sending security people after drone pilots, it is updating the 3D flyover of the location in Apple Maps somewhat frequently. The latest looks like it was taken earlier this summer.
An updated aerial shot from Apple was also posted on the City of Cupertino’s website last month, revealing that quite a bit of progress has been made on the future headquarters:
You can follow the progress in our Campus 2 story line here. We’re going to try to get a new video every few weeks, so stay tuned.

No offence but you guys know squat about construction. The foundation? Obviously not complete. Structural work begun? No, not at all. Anyone with any experience can look at these videos and see that this is true.
The last video showed only poured slabs and concrete retaining walls around some pounded earth structures. The pilings weren’t poured, and the foundations of the pilings weren’t poured. This video still only shows the pilings as partially complete. Some of the temporary structure is in place to pour the very first floor of the underground parking area, but in other parts of the ring, the foundations aren’t even poured.
Until at least the lowest level with the pilings, columns, and parking structure is complete (it’s not), and probably even until they even break ground level, you cant really say that “structural work has begun.” The building literally isn’t even there yet. This is just the preliminary work on the underpinnings of the structure that will actually be built on top.
The “structural work” will be the actual assembling of the building itself out of large pre-made concrete and glass panels. This is more like a partially finished sub-sub basement.
Ms. Obvious: Breaking NEWS! *Dramatic Music* “This just in, 9to5 authors deep dark secret is out. On the scene is Mr Grey. Mr. Grey, we had been hearing a number of reports from sources that the team at 9to5 had been harbouring a deep dark secret for years now, but now it seems that information is out, what can you tell us?”
Mr. Grey: “Yes Ms. Obvious, it seems as though the reports are true, 9to5 have absolutely no idea about construction. Which is just a shame and a major loss to the readers of the website.
Ms. Obvious: “What are implications of such a leak for the site”
Mr. Grey: “We are hearing that users are absolutely outraged, unaware that they have been lied to this entire time. I interviewed a member by the name of herb and he tells me that many users are leaving due to the sites ignorance on the matter of construction”
*Play Video Snippet of herb Interview* I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT CONSTRUCTION IT’S AN OUTRAGE. I TRUSTED THEM! SAMSUNG WOULD NEVER DO THIS
Ms. Obvious: “Quite distressing footage. We contacted 9to5 and they have emailed us and this is what they had to say, “Duh”.
LOL! Props to the 9to5 eds on the response though, that would get you a written warning over at MR…
Wow, Apple’s version of the Pentagon! Looks like the iron man core from the picture! The 2nd heart of Apple is being built! Can’t wait to visit it when its built!
Perfect execution of an iMovie trailer! *applause*
Ooooohh, so that’s why it was cut like a Michael Bay movie.
9 to 5 You Ignorant Bastards.
I am very disappointed that you guys don’t know squat about construction. I am so disappointed that I had to come here and write an entire paragraph about construction and the little you know about it. You guys should go out of business. Now excuse me while I click over to the Architecture Daily web site so I can find out what features are going to be in OS X 11.
So people who run a tech blog are supposed to be construction experts? The videos have been interesting, so let’s not nit pick.
Post was entirely sarcastic and was likely a reply to an above comment.
Nice, but I can do without the interruptions in the video. Couldn’t they just overlay the text rather than cutting over to a black screen? Very distracting.
It’s interesting to see that they’ve arranged the items for the ramp that will go inside the central park, not the current ramp, but another one that will start from the bottom of the current one. It’s shape is visible from the structure on top.
What’s with the Hitler music?
What a stupid video, horrible super-overly dramatic music, repeated shots of the same things, seems like someone (Myithz) is well-proud of himself for something that for the life of me I fail to see. Oh, and see Mr. Grey’s comment for further details.
I once helped a friend finish his basement.
The music is all dramatic because they’ve used one of the action movie trailers inside iMovie. Don’t get all upset about it.
To me it looks as if a lot of the building is underground..??
I do believe it is to be used as a car park underneath the structure. Clever if you ask me, many new buildings in Britain are taking this approach, it not only saves space, but directly links you to the building you are traveling too. How many times have to driven to a supermarket and needed to trek across 500 yards of car park, to then trek 500 yards back with your shopping?
Hmmm, not the closest pictures but I am guessing that those round short devices are anti-earthquake devices that the steel beams are mounted on. So the foundation is poured, the subbasement walls and floors are starting, and the first floor or two will be basement (all actual structure, sorry Grey). I do think it will be parking mostly but the basement is a great place to store all your supplies and its supplied by tractor trailer direct to storage. Neat.
It will look more like a normal building once the floors break ground level but the vertical beams will go all the way down to its foundation footers which appear to be already planted.
PS, dad worked structural steel for multi story buildings and I work Aerospace engineering. But a Calif. certified building engineer, I am not.
