Dropbox is sending out an email to let users know that crashes related to Yosemite have been resolved in the latest OS X 10.10.1 release that landed earlier this week.
“We’re reaching out to let you know about an issue in Apple’s new OS X Yosemite that causes problems with Dropbox. You can resolve this issue by installing the latest Software for OS X Yosemite…
OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 arrived earlier this week for users bringing with it a number of bug fixes and Wi-Fi improvements. The problem for Dropbox, according to the company, is caused by a Yosemite bug related to how applications, not just Dropbox, use Yosemite’s official Finder integration. The bug can lead to crashing for Dropbox and other apps when using open, save, or save-as functions. Dropbox notes that “if the program crashes because of this interaction, unsaved changes may be lost.”
Fortunately, users can easily remedy the issue by updating to the latest OS X 10.10.1 release through Software Update in the Mac App Store.
In related news: earlier today Apple released its first seed of OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 beta to AppleSeed users and developers ahead of a public release.

Can someone tell me how to get rid of the Dropbox button that appears in every Finder window’s toolbar? “Customize Toolbar…” doesn’t work. Running 10.10.1 and Dropbox 2.10.52.
Finder – View – Customize Toolbar – just drag the dropbox icon away from the actual toolbar (not the one shown under Customize Toolbar)
I am afraid this has not solved the problem. If you try to open files in the Dropbox folder direct from Adobe Creative Suite or Microsoft Word or excel – the applications all still crash. We are in touch with Dropbox support who seem to have gone quiet on us having asked a lot of diagnostic questions. This is happening on a number of different Macs running Yosemite. A work around is to click on the relevant file or document and then click on it to open it which works. But this is not so helpful if you are placing images into Indesign for example. You have to remove the file or document you want from within the Dropbox folder and then it works fine!
We pay a lot of money for the Dropbox service and this is a major problem for this service. I hope this is resolved soon and if anyone knows of how to sort this – please do comment.
I’m afraid this problem started for me AFTER I installed 10.10.1. Is there a fix?
Same boat here — I’m on OS X 10.10.3 and the bug is consistent and bad. Across multiple CC apps. Need a fix and pronto!
No it doesn’t fix anything. Keeps on crashing and losing work in Word! Hopeless. Get it together, Dropbox and Microsoft.
