Last week, we noted that Apple’s latest iOS 8.4 release with Apple Music removes support for the long-existing Music Home Sharing feature. This function allows an iOS device user to stream music from a computer running iTunes on their own WiFi network. Today, Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services noted on Twitter that Apple is “working” to restore Home Sharing functionality in iOS 9. It is likely that Home Sharing was removed in iOS 8.4 due to changes necessary with the record labels to launch the new streaming music service. Cook previously revealed details on this week’s iOS 9 beta, streaming bit rates, and more via Twitter.

“Working”? No Home Sharing = no 9. I couldn’t care less about Apple Music. Happy for those who do, but not something I need. Home Sharing is something I need.
Didn’t read the story? It seems to be a licensing thing with the music companies. Negotiations still underway. I believe the definition of “broadcasting” is the problem. Same reason, and I don’t know on which end, with Apple and the Sonos Airplay problem, which reputedly will be fixed “soon.”
I think the problem was that the old Home Sharing had no way of knowing what music was Protected, Purchased, Uploaded, Apple Music, or Matched. And as part of the negotiations for Apple Music, Home Sharing could not be allowed to play music that had been put into someone’s library through Apple Music, but everything else was okay. I think Apple is rewriting Home Sharing so that it can tell the difference between content you’ve paid for and content you’re simply “borrowing”.

ios 9 beta 3 is still not availible, i regard early week to be a monday or tuesday, and wednesday tomorrow to be mid week. come on eddy dont promise things you cant deliver.
It’s Tuesday morning in Cupertino – they still have the whole day to get it released “on time”.
Since it still works on pre 8.4 devices then it’s either rework the music app or get the licensing sorted or most likely both. They should have made it clear before upgrading that they were removing it.

How about bringing back the awesome and under-promoted iTunes DJ/Remote feature they killed with iTunes 11?
