Apple has released an official iOS update for all users with iOS 8.4.1 now available. The update follows the major iOS 8.4 release which included an all-new Music app with Apple Music, the new subscription music service, plus Beats 1, Apple’s Internet-based radio station with live DJs. Apple initially started testing the changes in iOS 8.4.1 with developers in mid-July. The maintenance update includes several issue fixes for Apple Music and Beats 1.
Specifically, Apple names fixes for enabling iCloud Music Library which keeps music and playlists collections up-to-date across devices, a hidden music issue due to offline music preferences, album artwork problems, and favoriting tracks from Beats 1. Additionally, Apple says the update includes a better method for adding songs to a playlist when none are available and several fixes for artists posting to Apple Music’s Connect feature.
The update is available for all iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches capable of running iOS 8. It can be found from the Settings app under General and Software Update for updating over-the-air, or through iTunes on the Mac or PC for updating without much free storage available.

first thing to do when having bugs like that are to restart said device. any device.
I find it interesting that they are releasing updates for 8 when 9 is no close to release. Especially since 9 beta is as polished as it is. I have had no problems with 9 other than the minor clearing notifications once in a while.
They have to get 8.4 Apple Music functional for devices not going to 9.
everything that got 8.4 can run 9.
Can and should remains to be seen. I would imagine a lot of people who were crippled by 8 will be reluctant to go to 9 but perhaps might still want a to add songs to a playlist without pulling their hair out
Incorrect assumption. 9 will run better on 8.4 compatible devices.
It very well may….but there are tens of millions of people using an iPhone 4S/iPad 2/iPad mini on 8 and the OS barely moves….and thats not an exaggeration. I am sure millions of older 8 devices do not update for a long time and Apple will still need a decent music service for those people or else they will never sign up for Apple Music.

This update also brings with it many security fixes (see https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205030 ). Folks shouldn’t have to wait a month or more for iOS 9 to get those.

I hope this fixes the issue where all the non-locally stored tracks are removed from a playlist when the view is et to only show offline music but a new apple Music track is added.
It didn’t seem to fix a whole lot for me. I still have wrong artwork on albums (I don’t mean variations. I mean covers switched). I have some albums that show up in one sort (let’s say by artist), but doesn’t show in another sort (like album). Heck, some artists don’t show up in any sort, and can only be found by searching my library. :(
Hello Everyone – This update has been nothing but trouble for a lot of people including myself (see below thread for some common issues) Apple even replaced my 6+ at the store. Now Facing similar issues on my iPad air with no solution found – i encourage everyone to visit the apple support communities thread and participate to this so we can be heard.
This is unacceptable from apple, bricking our costly devices through unnecessary updates.
