Kate Winslet, Michael Fassbender among Golden Globe nominees for roles in Steve Jobs movie

Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs biopic ultimately may not have performed so hot in theaters with reports saying the film likely lost money, but Michael Fassbender who portrayed the title character in the movie is being recognized for his performance. Earlier today the Golden Globe Award nominees were announced with Kate Winslet, Michael Fassbender, and Aaron Sorkin among the list of nominees credited for their roles in the Steve Jobs movie.

Michael Fassbender, who was eventually selected to play Steve Jobs after Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio turned down the role, is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. Actress Kate Winslet, who played marketing exec Joanna Hoffman, is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.

Aaron Sorkin could also win a Golden Globe Award as he’s nominated for Best Screenplay – Motion Picture. Daniel Pemberton is similarly nominated for Best Original Score – Motion Picture for his work on Steve Jobs.

Winners will be announced in one month on January 10th, 2016, during the 73rd Golden Globe Awards ceremony airing on NBC from 8-11 PM ET.

While the film was rather short-lived in theaters, its limited release saw the highest per-theather earnings of the year and the best yet for director Danny Boyle on opening weekend, grossing $2.26 million once it reached 60 theaters. The film was widely criticized for its artistic liberties, however, by the likes of Walt Mossberg and Jobs’ widow Laurene Powell Jobs who say the Steve Jobs in the movie does not represent the late Apple co-founder.

The film was originally released on October 9th and appears to still be playing in a select few theaters.

Buddies giving each other awards. Saw the movie. Nothing award worthy there.

    I still don’t care.

Why? The movie didn’t do well. Why should anyone get an award for something that failed? These awards are just industry cronies patting each other on the back.

Financially, maybe not, but thankfully quality isn’t determined by sales. It was a brilliant film with quite a good critical response.

No it wasn’t. Screw the critics. If the movie did not accurately portray Steve Jobs, then its CRAP.

How can i have seen it, it hasn’t even come out here yet!

  7. I think it’s funny seeing all the apple fans on this site hating on the movie. Like honestly you should be slapped in the face because you’re living in some fantasy world. Every year they make tons of movies that celebrate real people who did great things. Yes this entire movie didn’t take place exactly how it occurred. But the core of it did. Every person in the movie is saying that the essence of what the film represents is true. But instead all of you are completely ignoring the film based off what people who, didn’t know steve jobs until the very end of the movie, are saying.

And the comment about friends giving friends awards… are you kidding me? So you want a bunch of computer scientists giving a farming award? Of course they are going to be in the same industry! And it’s been like that in every awards show since the beginning of time!

And the guy who thinks since the film failed financially it shouldn’t be given an award or be recognized? So Avatar should win best picture? Jurassic Park? You’re joking right?

There have been 2 feature films and 1 documentary about steve jobs. The first feature was a huge cash grab. Stop complaining because artists share your appreciation for an individual and want to write about him. Like that is the biggest thing you should take away. Why is this a problem? Nobody is saying Steve Jobs was a bad person. Nobody is perfect.

The movie failed at the box office. Because a film’s financial success is honestly a crap shoot. Don’t think for a second that the commenters on this blog changed anything. Shawshank Redemption which is one of the highest rated movies of all time on IMDb did horribly at the box office. You did nothing except listen to a bunch of people who you’ve never met tell you that you shouldn’t enjoy any piece of art that celebrates someone you care about. I love apple. But I’m not blind.

  8. Hollywood. It’s like High School for adults.
