Earlier this year, Twitter promised a brand new Mac app with a fresh new look and a whole lot more. Today that new version is out now with a huge list of new features including a dark mode and GIF support. Twitter 4 also features a new round icon (that’s how you’ll know it’s the new version).
The new version fits in much better with OS X Yosemite/El Capitan and includes a Notification Center widget in the Today view. It also includes many features that were previously only available on the mobile apps and third-party clients. Here’s everything that’s new:

The update still lacks some features like full-screen mode or Split View support as well as presenting Twitter polls, but it’s a step in the right direction for what previously felt like an abandoned Mac app. You may recall Twitter for Mac previously took an uncomfortably long time updating to Retina displays, then remained stagnant for quite some time afterwards.

Nice I guess. Kind of a shame that most Mac apps aren’t in the app store, as the update process is much nicer.

The thinnest it gets is also much wider than Tweetbot, not ideal for 12″ MacBooks

Hmmm just bought Tweetbot for Mac. Did not realize it doesn’t have the dark theme mode and now I somewhat regret it.
Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and ask for a refund. It is very easy since it is click-through.
Swipe two fingers downward on your timeline when Tweetbot is in light mode and it switches into a dark mode.

Why would someone want this app vs., say, Tweetbot?

Well you definitely get what you pay for. This new app is infinitely worse than the old version, somehow. It’s almost impressive how bad it is. Stick with Tweetbot.
I’m having old follow notifications reappearing every few minutes. Also, as someone mentioned earlier, it doesn’t support split screen.
Too many bugs… Today Screen doesnt work.. keep getting the same notifications over and over

Probably because it relies on OS X features that didn’t exist in 10.9

Twitter isn’t awfully happy about their update though, as the change log in the Mac App Store only says “Fixed a lot of bugs” but nothing about the new design and stuff…
The developer (which is not Twitter) has removed features and functions, and the software is buggy. So this update is nothing more than a UI color change and a long list of “issues.”
Does it support multiple accounts? I have a professional twitter for my nerdy feeds and a personal twitter for my “gaming/party/other fun stuff !” feeds.
