There’s a new iOS 9.2.1 update within the Settings app awaiting all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users today. Apple released the first developer beta version of the software update in mid-December after shipping iOS 9.2 earlier in the month. The second iOS 9.2 beta was later released at the start of January. Apple has since started testing iOS 9.3 with developers and public beta testers.
As the version number suggests, iOS 9.2.1 so far hasn’t included any major feature changes or enhancements, and the official release notes only reference bug fixes, security improvements, and an MDM server issue fix.
The software update for iPhone and iPad likely includes fixes for any issues introduced with iOS 9.2 at the beginning of the year. Today’s release may also be timed as to support AT&T’s NumberSync feature, which bridges iPhone numbers with other connected devices like iPads and Macs, although we’ll have to go hands-on before we know for sure. This feature was previously tested in other iOS 9 betas.
The upcoming iOS 9.3 update adds a new Night Shift feature, Touch ID and password-protected Notes, and new Education features among other changes. Check out our hands-on video for a first look at the iPhone and iPad changes plus CarPlay improvements.

As ever, head to the Settings app if and look for the new release in the Software Updates section. Be sure to shout our way if you discover anything new and experience any issues with the latest official software release.

I’ve been using number sync on AT&T since 9.2, you just need to enable it through the phone settings and have two iOS devices on one account..
Interesting, thanks for the heads up. I’m on 9.3 beta currently and do see the option. Another editor reported having the option during a beta then losing it when 9.2 was released (and seeing it again in 9.2.1 beta). Maybe it’s a slow rollout.
For me it was working only on the same wifi after the beta broke it and would. It work with the iPhone turned off.
Anyone experiencing a delay on the iPhone ringing on 9.3 or 9..2.1? My iMac and IPad Air 2 start ringing 2 rings before my iPhone. This did not happen when NumberSync was first released.
Same here, Number Sync has been fine since 9.2.
Since 9.2 iCloud backup has been complete broken for me and many others, all uploads fail to complete….Phone support said they are working to fix it in a future release, hopefully this is the one! But, I’d doubt it.
I’m relieved to know that I’m not the only one who has been having problems with the cloud. I keep getting a popup that says I haven’t backed up in 14 weeks now, but in settings.cloud. It says backed up at 5:35am. Not able to do a back up now, and in storage it says NEVER. Before I realized I had a problem I lost all of my Pages documents from the cloud. Thankfully all my photos are ok.
Yeah, its been a pain lately. If you use iCloud Photo Library I think photos are being handled separately and arent having the same problems so they are a little safer. But I am super ready for them to fix this.
Is the icloud photos sync fixed?
Hm what issue are you having? Haven’t had any problems in this space myself.
Hi my wireless is not working it grey out .. given you know option .can you help
Does this release fix the battery bug issue on the 6s? Timing would make sense.
NumberSync? I thought that was built in? I have the option to forward calls to my mac / iPad already on Verizon…
I seem to have lost all audio when playing games on my iphone 5 with this update. Anyone else having this problem?
I seem to have lost all audio when playing games on my iPhone 5 after this update, anyone else having this problem?
After installing update I can not talk to anyone unless they are a Verizon customer. How can this be fixed?
Has anyone experienced missing text or pic mail since the last update? I don’t receive all my text or they come through hours later.
My Iphone touch ID is intermittent to not working now! I deleted the old and it struggled to get the new one in. I had to go back and forth by touching the screen and finger reader to get a new one but most of the time it will not even read it!
Is this update at all necessary? I find it a major pain, as the updates take so much memory, I need to dump music and reload it.
Although your image says 9.2.1 requires 37.7 MB, on my phone it says 874 MB! I think I’ll pass, as nothing in the update description resonates with me.
In fact, the last update I did was 8.3….did I miss something important?
Since updating I get kicked out of many apps and mail! Very frustrating! Any one know how to fix this?
My iPad2 has never been working well since upgading to 9.2.1 version
Facebook is a mess
iCloud pics not the same
System is much slower
Some apps not working
Wish I knew how to reverse this and go back to previous version
