Apple releases tvOS 9.1.1 software update with Podcasts app for the new Apple TV

There’s a new software update awaiting Apple TV 4 owners as Apple released a small point update for all users today. tvOS 9.1.1 likely includes bug fixes and performance improvements without adding any major feature changes. The update, however, does include the new Podcasts app that first appeared in tvOS 9.2 beta.

The bigger update coming in the future also includes channel folders, Bluetooth keyboard support and more. You can update your Apple TV 4 through the Settings channel from the Home screen.

While tvOS 9.1.1 is available to all users from today, tvOS 9.2 is currently limited to testing by developers and expected to be released later this year.

Take a look at our hands-on video with tvOS 9.2, which includes Apple’s Podcasts app, below:

Speaking of video, the shipping Podcasts app works with video, which the beta 1 version in tvOS 9.2 did not, although that’s since been resolved as well.

Did they fix the inability to select seaons in your back catalog, or do you still have to scroll through 208 episodes to find that the one you want to watch?

what’s astonishing to me is that netflix no longer has categories that you can browse through.

This is Netflix, not tvOS. It’s also a standardized interface Netflix is working to have look and function the same on all devices.

But can you watch video podcasts full screen?

Ok so now we got an app we can’t remove. Why wasn’t the podcast app just made a download like on all the other iOS stuff?

Ok I stand corrected. Wonder when it had changed from being an app we could install to being one forced on our iOS devices.

I was hoping this release would have had the bluetooth keyboard support :-(

i think the next main addition should have search dictation for all applications.

I don’t see that it yet supports 4k. Sigh……. Still waiting to buy.
