Anchor podcast platform debuts ‘Listener Support’ feature for monetizing shows

Anchor is an all-in-one platform that simplifies podcast production and distribution, and its latest new feature wants to help hosts tackle monetization. Podcasts are often funded by sponsorships or listener contributions through separate platforms, but Anchor wants to make direct contributions part of their platform.

Listener Support lets subscribers opt in to monthly, recurring payments to hosts for their shows. Anchor says any podcast hosted on its platform can use the new feature, and listeners don’t need to use the Anchor app to start using Listener Support.

Anchor podcast publishers simply generate a Listener Support button for their Anchor profile, then include a link to it in episode show notes which appears in all podcast players including Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts.

Listener Support includes three monthly payment tiers — $0.99, $4.99, and $9.99 — and Stripe payment processing means Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported payment methods.

Hosts can withdraw money earned from Listener Support anytime without waiting on one-time monthly payments. Both Anchor and Stripe do take a percentage of the revenue generated from Listen Support, however, which Anchor details:

Anchor takes an industry-lowest 4.5% fee, alongside Stripe’s standard 5% + $0.10 processing fee, from each transaction with your supporters. There’s also a $0.25 Stripe payout fee when you cash out the money to your bank account. […] As an example, if you have 10 supporters who’ve each pledged $9.99, you end up with $89.16 in your bank account for that month.
