Phil Schiller mentioned on stage at Apple’s event today that the new iPhones include the most LTE bands that have ever been included in the company’s smartphones. After taking a look at the Xs and XR tech specs, not only do the new devices include more bands, one of them is new to iPhones this year that can offer T-Mobile users better coverage.
For the first time, the iPhone has gained LTE band 71 with the Xs and XR. Band 71 operates on the 600MHz spectrum that T-Mobile has acquired. The carrier has touted the low-band spectrum as a key part of its 5G approach for the future as well as offering extended range LTE coverage with it now.
T-Mobile CEO, John Legere, took to Twitter today to highlight the news. While most of Apple’s previous iPhones included around 23 LTE bands, the new iPhone Xs and Xs Max offer 27-29 bands depending on the model/region. Apple hasn’t added the XR to its list sharing the fine LTE band details across different region specific models, but it does mention on the general tech specs page that band 71 is included.
How about you? If you’re a T-Mobile customer, are you looking forward to the 600MHz compatibility with the new iPhones and improved coverage? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
Of course we’re going to carry the new iPhones!! BEST PART?! They are the first iPhones ever to INCLUDE our 600MHz Extended Range LTE!! That means your new #iPhone will have the best coverage and network experience of any @TMobile iPhone, EVER! #AppleEvent
