Apple’s support for US national parks
Apple has had an annual tradition of supporting America’s national parks through Apple Pay purchases. Its most recent donation campaign was in August of this year.
As the U.S. National Park Service marks its 108th birthday this week, Apple is celebrating with more ways to support and experience America’s parks. Today through August 25, Apple will make a $10 donation to the National Park Foundation for every purchase made with Apple Pay on apple.com, in the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store in the U.S. Additionally, this fall, Apple Maps will make it even easier for users to explore national parks with details for thousands of hikes.
Apple now supporting national parks in China
GuruFocus reports that the company has now announced support for a Chinese education program.
Apple has announced a donation to the China Green Carbon Foundation aimed at developing education and training opportunities in five national parks across China. This initiative will facilitate the creation of a National Park Innovation Alliance Working Group over the coming months, which will bring together top Chinese universities, research institutions, and non-governmental organizations.
The working group will collaborate with experts in global ecological conservation and restoration to design and implement new educational programs, with Apple’s support. This endeavor underscores Apple’s commitment to environmental sustainability and education.
Apple’s likely public and private goals
The donation likely fills two briefs for the iPhone maker: supporting environmental initiatives, and helping maintain a good relationship with the Chinese government.
Making donations to government schemes is an approach Apple has taken before in an effort to show goodwill at a time when diplomatic relationships between US and China are strained.
