As spotted by TechCrunch, Danish users are turning to iOS apps to help them boycott American products. Here are the details.
Boycott apps surge in Denmark
In recent days, two apps called NonUSA (UdenUSA) and Made O’Meter have surged in downloads in the Danish App Store, which also serves users in Greenland.
According to Sensor Tower data, NonUSA is currently the most-downloaded app in Denmark, with Made O’Meter ranking fourth. TechCrunch reports that, based on data by Appfigures, “NonUSA became the No. 1 app on Wednesday, after earlier jumping from No. 6 on Tuesday, up from No. 441 on January 9“.
Both apps work in similar ways: users scan a product’s barcode to view detailed information about its origin. However, while Made O’Meter positions itself as a grocery assistant focused on “transparency in global supply chains,” NonUSA takes a far more overtly anti-American approach.

From NonUSA’s App Store description:
UdenUSA helps you identify and avoid American products in your everyday life. With our intuitive scanning feature, you can easily check whether a product is American-owned and find Danish alternatives.
The rise of these apps coincides, of course, with escalating tensions between Denmark (and other European countries) and the U.S. over Greenland.
And while it’s easy to point out the irony of using a U.S.-made app store to download apps onto a phone made by a U.S. company to boycott U.S.-made products, it looks like Danish consumers are ready to accept this contradiction if it means expressing their discontent with the overall situation facing their country.
