Sonos has had a rough past couple of years. But the company just unveiled its first new hardware product since 2024: the Amp Multi. Here are the details.
Amp Multi is the first new Sonos hardware since 2024

If you’ve been following Sonos for long, you know the company has had plenty of reason to stay out of the limelight recently.
In 2024 a major Sonos app revamp was shipped, and it was received very poorly. That botched app rollout, combined with soft reception of the flagship Sonos Ace product, ultimately led to Sonos’ CEO being replaced.
Then last year, the new CEO canceled what had been planned as a major hardware swing: an Apple TV 4K competitor. Some Sonos Roam speakers started overheating and partially melting, too.
Which brings us to 2026, where Sonos hopes to turn things around. And its first hardware product in over a year was just announced: the Amp Multi.
Built for professional installation, Amp Multi provides unmatched multi-zone flexibility with GaN and PFFB technology to completely redefine what an 8-channel amplifier can do.
Amp Multi delivers 8 x 125W of power across up to four zones, leveraging advanced GaN technology and post-filter feedback (PFFB) for greater efficiency, clarity, and control. With ProTune, installers can optimize the sound for any low-impedance passive speakers, tailoring performance to placement and room acoustics. ProTune offers a full suite of manual controls, including a 10-band parametric EQ plus adjustable gain and delay offsets, enabling truly bespoke audio experiences. Its innovative chassis design enhances thermal performance, while recessed connectors, status LEDs, and a streamlined 2U rack mount simplify setup and ensure reliable, fanless cooling.
Amp Multi clearly isn’t intended to be a mass-market hit. But perhaps that makes it a good first product to start putting recent troubles behind the company.
If you’re a big Sonos user and want a way to easily integrate traditional speakers into your Sonos setup, the Amp Multi may be for you.
Sonos told Bloomberg that “Hardware launches will ramp up in the second half of its fiscal 2026,” so that’s when we can expect to see more consumer-focused offerings.
