WhatsApp beta for Mac tests flexible update schedules

The latest beta build of WhatsApp’s Mac app lets users choose between daily and weekly update schedules, in addition to checking manually for new updates. Here are the details.

WhatsApp tests customizable update schedules on the Mac app

As spotted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a new setting that lets users control how frequently the Mac app is updated, depending on whether they prioritize getting the latest changes immediately or greater stability.

As the site explains, WhatsApp recently ended its TestFlight beta program for Mac. Users who want to test upcoming features must now download beta builds directly from WhatsApp rather than through Apple’s TestFlight platform.

According to WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta for Mac, version 26.30.10.20, adds a new “Keep up to date” section with two automatic update options:

  • Latest version: Updates more often with bug fixes and stability improvements
  • Stable weekly version: Updates less often with bug fixes and stability improvements.

From WABetaInfo:

Both options deliver the same core features, but the timing differs. The “Latest version” option may occasionally offer new features ahead of the weekly build. As a result, daily updates can sometimes include functionality that the weekly release does not yet include. However, the “Stable weekly version” is the safer pick for most users. For users who simply want the newest build available at all times, the “Latest version” option is the right one.

As is usually the case with beta features on WhatsApp, the rollout appears to be gradual, meaning that not all users running the latest beta will gain immediate access.

WABetaInfo notes that WhatsApp has not officially announced the feature or provided any indication of whether, or when, it might roll out more broadly.
