iOS 27.2 adds new app icon for Apple Music, more design updates

iOS 27.2 launched this week, and the update includes a new app icon for Apple Music alongside other small design changes in the Music app.

Refreshed Music app icon and widgets, tab bar updates, Library tweaks, and more arrive in iOS 27.2

Apple Music new icon dark mode

Last week Apple unveiled a branding refresh for Apple Music that we’d already seen signs of.

For example, back in September an all-new Apple Music logo debuted for Apple Music Hall. But before long, it started spreading to more places including the streamer’s social media.

And now in iOS 27.2, the iPhone has a new app icon for Apple Music too.

As seen above, the new icon removes Apple Music’s visually distinct red color from its branding. Instead, it’s now a white icon with black music logo by default, and in dark mode it’s black with a white logo.

Alongside this change, the Music app in iOS 27.2 now uses blue in the tab bar for the currently active tab—a stark shift from the previous red branding. Widgets for the Music app similarly use simple black backgrounds now instead of the iconic red.

Additionally, in the Library tab’s list of different sections like Playlists, Albums, Artists, and Songs, color has been removed in favor of a black-and-white design.

Finally, Apple’s curated playlists and stations throughout the app now use the updated logo with a bolder font and all-lowercase styling.
