iPhone Duo: Here are all the little details you might have missed

iPhone Duo is the name of Apple’s new foldable model, and it’s perhaps the most fascinating new model since the original iPhone. Here are all the little iPhone Duo details you might have missed.

iPhone Duo tidbits from Apple’s announcement and website

Apple’s first foldable iPhone was unveiled today ahead of becoming available to order next month.

If you’re looking to buy a new iPhone, you might be very interested in the Duo, but are unsure if it’s right for you.

The tentpole features of iPhone Duo are pretty clear: it’s a foldable, with two displays, great cameras and battery life, and plenty of unique form factor advantages.

But there were a variety of smaller iPhone Duo details revealed both in today’s announcement and on Apple’s website afterwards.

Camera features

  • Software exclusives: iPhone Duo has several exclusive camera features available in software, like Smart Take, Kid Cue, and Duo Preview. But most notably, its Main camera lacks the variable aperture feature of iPhone 18 Pro.
  • Under-display camera: A first in the iPhone, the folding display of iPhone Duo has an under-display camera for a cutout-free inner screen.
  • Selfie cameras are very different: That under-display camera isn’t nearly as capable as the Center Stage front camera on the outer display, so you’ll want to use the outer camera when possible.

Buttons

iPhone Duo has a Camera Control button, but is missing the Action button that’s been available on other iPhone models for several years now.

Displays

There’s a nano‑texture finish only on the folding iPhone Duo display. You won’t find nano-texture on the outer screen.

Apple Pencil

Apple says iPhone Duo will support Apple Pencil later this year on both the inner and folding displays. However, currently only the USB-C Pencil model is supported, not the Apple Pencil Pro.

Release Date

Unlike iPhone 18 Pro, which goes on sale later this week, iPhone Duo won’t be available to order until October 16. It then ships to all users a week later on October 23.

iOS 27.1

It’s probably not surprising, since iPhone Duo doesn’t ship until late October, but Apple says the new model will run iOS 27.1 when it arrives.

I’ve seen comments about how they didn’t mention MagSafe, but it has it, just wasn’t mentioned

You won’t be able to buy an iPhone Duo with physical SIM anywhere in the world. Even in China, where users largely prefer physical SIMs, the iPhone Duo will be eSIM-only.
