As 9to5Mac exclusively reported last week, Apple has now ditched the Smart Signs in Apple Stores — the tethered iPads which displayed product specifications and pricing information next to the demo units in retail shops. Instead, Apple has loaded a new app called ‘Pricing’ on demo MacBooks, iPads and iPhones which contains the same information.
Mike Cronin has posted an array of photos showing the new apps in action. The app lets users compare models, check accessories and review product specs related to the current product they are using.
On the Mac, the Pricing app also adds a floating window to the OS X desktop which invites customers to click to ‘compare models’ and find out more information. You can also call over an Apple employee for personal assistance from within the UI.
The icon resembles an Apple Store employee badge but don’t expect this app to appear outside of the Apple Store. Like the custom Touch ID app, the Pricing app is meant to help users in store learn more about the products on offer. Customers interested in finding out about Apple products from home should download the comprehensive Apple Store app from the App Store or check Apple.com.

Perhaps all those spare iPad 2’s are going to be sold in China¿
Or used for Apple’s new education push.
“You can also call over an Apple employee for personal assistance from within the UI.”
So they now have each product on a ‘Store Map’? That is one heck of a feature!
Does that pricing icon have shadows?
I think it’s multiple price tags..
No, it’s the badge/tag in the background seen in the OS X icon.
It makes sense. They are requiring consumers to interact with the device prior to seeing pricing information. A good way to turn someone just strolling through into a hands on user, not that anyone needs much more enticing than actually being in the Apple Store.
