Apple announced during the iPhone 6s keynote earlier this month that the phone would include a second-generation Touch ID system that was much faster than its predecessor. Now that iPhone buyers are starting to get their handsets delivered, it’s possible to test just how much faster.
In the video below from iFixYouri, you can see the new phone go head-to-head with the two previous Touch ID-capable phones.

As you can see from the video, the iPhone 6s’ Touch ID sensor is faster than both older models, and seems much more reliable, especially compared to the iPhone 5s. For a better look at just how fast the 6s is, take a look at the video below from our own Benjamin Mayo.

With a nearly-instant scan, the iPhone 6s blows away the iPhone 6 in terms of unlock speed. Some users have even said that they’re no longer able to simply wake the phone up and check the lock screen for notifications because the Touch ID scan is so fast that the phone unlocks immediately.

Not strictly fair on the 5s I feel, the guy doing it doesn’t seem to have his print on the sensor, more so the crease of the thumb. The knuckle so to speak. But k have no doubts the 6s is ridiculously quick. I find it difficult to double click the home button to bring up Apple Pay because it has already registered and unlocked the phone before I get to the second click.
Definitely agree. They should have reset the trial and done it again as it was user error.
Well, but I will say that speed aside, the 6 and 6s is not only faster, but more reliable. My dad is 72. His fingers are a bit more worn and less oily than me, and he gave up using Touch ID on his 5s. He got a 6 Plus last year and it works perfectly fine.
So I think its fair because a lot of people have a couple failures with Touch ID before it works on the 5s, whereas that does not occur on the newer models.
This is one of the things I began to hate about my 4S not having it and thus I need to get 6s however it’ll take at least 2 months until it’s available in my country. Sad face.
lol, why do you need to upgrade right to the 6S? It’s a great time to buy a 6 or a 5S as well.
When I buy something new I want to have the latest. It would be waste to buy older and then have to buy new sooner. Logic :)
Plus, 6s is just amazing and I think much better than 6 :)
I wonder if the 6s Touch ID is less susceptible to moisture errors?
From what I’ve heard, it is. It also works better for people with greasy fingers.
More than a little disingenuous with regard to the 5S. User’s thumb was clearly misaligned and it wouldn’t have been hard to redo the video properly.
I can confirm that it is less susceptible to moisture errors. My thumb is still semi-wet and it still scans through fine
Looks like the 6S thumb goes down before the 6…..so I’d say they are actually quite close to identical in terms of user experience.
I would be more concerned about reliability then speed, also less sensitivity to moisture would be great. I had to add and delete my fingerprints 8-10 on my 6 plus every week or or 2 the first 2 months I had it. I only had to do a few times on my iPad Air 2. The 6 plus would only recognize my prints like 2 out of 10 scans. After a week or so after scanning my fingers again.
Shitty video. My 5S unlocks in a quarter second.
Benjamin Mayo’s video is accurate. My 6S Plus Touch ID is lightning fast. When I get a text, I like to answer from the lock screen (if I don’t get it in time). If I press the Home button to wake up the phone, it’s so fast it takes me to the home screen. Huge improvement over the 6 Plus. I have the Apple leather case and the power button is a little hard to press quickly.
I upgrade from the 4S today and i keep forgetting i that i enabled touch id on my device. i usually wake my 6s plus with the home button and it quickly unlocks so much faster.
Ooooh man, that’s so amazing. I can not wait when the iPhone 6s will finally be available in my country. At least two months of waiting plus it’ll cost much more than in the US, so sad :/
I very happy to have received my 128 gb iPhone 6s early in the morning, which note that the track is so fast is very good.
That is the most retarded test i have ever seen…lol
For starters it depends on how clean the sensors are, how many times you recorded your finger print, if you prints are clean etc…there are too many variables to test it
That new Touch ID is way faster than on the iPhone 6. At this point you can just click to unlock, no need to even hold your finger on the sensor. Check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sB8NFaJmko4
