Today at CES 2016, Pioneer will unveil an upgraded lineup of NEX series in-dash receivers featuring Apple CarPlay and Siri Eyes Free. Pioneer first brought Apple’s CarPlay infotainment system to cars through aftermarket displays in 2014. This year’s third-generation CarPlay head units from Pioneer include models with both 6.2-inch and 7-inch resistive and capacitive touchscreen displays.
The new models include the flagship AVIC-8200NEX which features a 7-inch capacitive screen and the AVH-4200NEX with a 7-inch resistive screen. AVIC-7200NEX also features a 7-inch resistive touchscreen; AVIC-5200NEX and AVIC-6200NEX have smaller 6.2-inch resistive touchscreens. While all five models support both CarPlay and Siri Eyes Free, the three 7-inch models also work with Google’s Android Auto infotainment feature.
The current lineup of CarPlay displays from Pioneer is already seeing price drops:
AVH-4100NEX ($694.95, reg. $850)
AVIC-5100NEX ($568.88, reg. $950)
AVIC-6100NEX ($697.95, reg. $1,150)
AVIC-7100NEX ($1,099, reg. $1500)
AVIC-8100NEX ($1,199.99, reg. $1700) (displayed above)
Pricing and availability on Pioneer’s new displays likely won’t be shared until later this year. We’ll update with official details from Pioneer later today when the CES show kicks off.

Carplay sucks. I have a Pioneer with Carplay, but when apps like Navigon is not allowed on the Carplay, it’s useless. Since Apple controls which apps are allowed on the Carplay, not much apps are available. For now it’s useless unless Apple opens up. :(
I agree, got carpal for 1 year and cannot wait to remove my pioneer and put back my old’s car radio
Navigation has always been available on Carplay……
Get iPhone mirroring and use any (non streaming) app you want. I got it just so I could use Waze
Is it me or are there so many ‘advertorials’ on 9to5mac that the site starts to resemble Amazon? just saying…
I’d to pin it on the time of year (holiday gift giving, CES) but could be wrong.
Having said that, if they’re writing about new gadgets and didn’t include a link to purchase the gadgets the first 5 comments on the post would probably be asking for links.
Eh, I’m always weary of changing head-units on my car. Seems any car manufactured in the past five years has significant integration with the radio that you can’t easily swap it out without losing some feature/functionality built into the car. I remember I swapped out my radio from my 2002 Cavalier a decade ago and wound up losing all chimes. Apparently Chevy routed the chimes (door open, keys in ignition) thru the radio.
This is good news. I’ll be curious to see if Alpine come out with anything. I prefer their units.
Fingers Crossed for Wireless CarPlay :D
The new models already show up on the US website but I see no difference in the new models and previous except that they removed mirrorlink on the new models.
You are right.. Unbelievable! These guys don’t have a clue what they are doing. After being forced to physically click “OK” on a warning dialog box (4100NEX) everytime I start my car I will never buy anything from Pioneer again. I wish Apple would enter this market soon and wipe them off the map.
Is clicking “Okay” really THAT big of a deal? You’re going to hit something on your radio when you get in to select what music you want to play anyway…. It takes 1/2 a second and keeps Pioneer from being liable, so chill.
Anybody know what is different between these and the older models?
Gives you the ability to connect 2 devices VIA bluetooth at the same time. Pretty much the only difference, but I’m sure they have made if faster and Carplay run smoother.
Looks like a continuation of poor implementation and execution. When CarPlay was first announced years and years ago, it boggled the mind what the future could be like. Looks like the wait will continue until at least 2020.
I’m looking to upgrade my car next year and get 2-3 year old car with car play. It looks like I’ll have to add car play with an aftermarket solution since CarPlay is so new.
Does CarPlay work well with Audi or Subaru?
