Steve Jobs movie flops at the Oscars as well as at the box office

Hopes that an Oscar win or two might revive interest in the Sorkin/Boyle movie Steve Jobs were dashed last night when neither of the nominees won. Michael Fassbender had been nominated for lead actor in the title role, but lost out to Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant. Ironically, DiCaprio was originally on board for the role later taken by Fassbender …

Kate Winslet was up for best supporting actress for her portrayal of Macintosh marketing chief Joanna Hoffman, but the Oscar went instead to Alicia Vikander for The Danish Girl. Winslet had hoped to make the hat-trick after picking up both a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for the role.

The movie bombed at the box office despite doing well in an extremely limited opening weekend. It received mixed reviews, but was heavily criticized by many who knew Steve, including Apple execs Tim Cook and Jony Ive, and  Silicon Valley insider Walt Mossberg

I saw the movie last week. It really was appallingly bad. So dull. So boring. So up itself.

Some would say that about Snorkin himself.

I think this might have been better had not Steve’s life already been well publicized over the last 4 decades. Between Isaacson’s book and the other 2 biopics, what little this “drama” reveals does indeed seem melodramatic if not fictional. I thought the acting indeed was great (I like Fassbender), but it’s so hard to accept the script’s content that you know is exaggerated, not accurately placed, and abbreviated for dramatic effect.

Still, for $4.99 rental, it’s worth watching if it’s raining outside!

when you make the founder of a company look bad who is six feet under you will never get a positive response. how about making a more honorable movie instead of just trashing the guy.

How about a compete story and just hand picked excerpts and opinions of ones life

I saw the clip they played at the Oscar’s of Winslet yelling at Steve. It was horrible. I sat there thinking, “This is why I don’t have any desire to see the movie. Just this little clip is appalling.”
