What’s this we hear? Apple’s going to open up its Mac App Store for business just on time for Christmas? That’s how it seems with the latest claimed insider gossip suggesting Apple’s gonna open its doors on the new big consumer software online retail outlet on December 13, hurrah!

Apparently Apple and its developers are way ahead of schedule and the company intends opening those virtual doors then. There’s even some scant chatter claiming this week, but this hasn’t really been picked-up.

An inside source has just told us that Apple is targeting a Monday, December 13th launch of the Mac App Store. The company apparently told developers to have their software prepared for a launch as early as Monday the 6th of this month, but our contact would be shocked if that happened at this point. Apple has made no official announcements regarding this, and delays could always happen, but there?s a push to be launched before Christmas, well ahead of the previously estimated January release.

AppleTell (via MacRumors) lets us know.

While you wait for things to open up you may want to take a look at Jean-Louis Gassée’s latest note in which he concludes:

Nonetheless, even if the new app store has a more modest debut and subsequent growth, it’ll be a good vehicle for smaller developers who struggle with the inconvenience and cost of today’s channels. It might even have the effect of attracting new developers to the OS X platform.
