Weather Underground updated with iOS 8 widget featuring radar view and current conditions

The popular Weather Underground app has been updated with support for iOS 8’s widgets that sports a lot more data than most weather widgets will give you. The new at-a-glance view in the Notification Center provides a look at current radar images and current weather conditions.

You can grab the free Weather Underground app from the iOS App Store. For even more iOS 8 widgets, check out our recent round-ups of general-purpose and weather-specific widgets, and more.

Widgets are great. I wonder why Apple is just recently starting to use them.

They are one of the things that enticed me to Android.

Your comments suck. Android widgets are something completely different. On iOS, there will eventually be more than eight of them, as any App can have an optional widget add-on.

They also won’t clutter up your home screen our drain your battery unnecessarily.

The number of widgets I can use is unlimited.

Battery life isn’t even a concern. I get about 2 days of heavy use with my S5.

Thanks for asking. I’m happy with my phone. It doesn’t bend, lose data in the cloud nor have I been asked to uninstall an update.
And it’s features are truly new… I know you’ll like what I’ve been using for months.

        😃😄

    • dude, go away, you’re like this guy who can’t stop talking about his ex-girlfriend. enough already.

My favorite features in Android are those that steal your credit card details, send messages to random people and call somebody that you didn’t even choose from your address book. I also like how they freeze and let you easily get spyware. And I love how promptly manufactures issue software updates. And so on, and so on. Yeah, you’re just boring, dude. Since you love your Android so much maybe you should be writing comments on dedicated websites?

I like the idea of widgets, but I hate how Apple shoehorned them into Notification Center. I don’t use any, or at least I don’t yet. I wish we had a separate page for them on the home screen, like swiping right (where Spotlight used to be) It would also be nice to integrate widgets into the lock screen. One can dream…

You can do that on Android.

        I know 😉

I get what you mean about having a separate page but you do know that the Notification Center is accessible from the lock screen, right? Not really integrated but just swipe down.

Is the Weather Underground widget better than the one for Yahoo Weather?

    • quagski - 10 years ago

More weather info and a radar map (separate widgets) with WU. Yahoo Weather gives you quick glance info and a pretty picture. It comes down to personal preference.

The Weather Underground app is much faster after update, both at the launch and when populating data for other locations. I could do without the widgets though, the design just feels cumbersome to me and I can just as quickly tap the app to open the same info and more.

Unfortunately, they took out the graph from the Widget! The graph was really useful and was the only reason I used this app. The Widget is for “Today” and should show you the temperature up and down and chance of rain in a graph!

As of this morning, as I was about to modify my weather widget app, I saw they brought back the graph!
