Digitimes, which has a mixed track record when it comes to Apple products, is claiming that the 12 inch Air will debut in the first quarter of 2015, as production ramps at manufacturer Quanta. 9to5Mac posted an exclusive report about this device last week, pictured in the mockup above. The device is expected to be razor-thin with just one USB Type C port doubling as both power and connectivity.
The price point of this device is not yet known. Interestingly, Digitimes reports that the device will usurp the 11 inch Air in the lineup, perhaps suggesting that the 12 inch Air will be in the same ballpark as far as price is concerned.
Due to landing orders for both the 12 inch MacBook Air and the Apple Watch, expected in March, Quanta will hire an additional 30,000 people according to the report. Although the lunar holidays are apparently causing some disruption, both products are seemingly on track to be released in the next couple of months.
Digitimes’ history with Apple rumors is spotty, although the publication has been decent at reporting short term production schedules, as is the case here.

I would not buy this if the rendering is correct. Aesthetically, with the rounded edges, it puts me too much in mind of that plastic cased MacBook from many years ago – which I always thought of as a toy-looking device.
Just my opinion – YMMV.
The current lineup all have the same rounded edges – even the MacBook Pro. The only visual difference is that this version is smaller, and so the keyboard is much closer TO those rounded edges.
It’s a concept, created by someone at 9to5mac. Of course this is not a correct rendering of the actual MacBook!
Digitimes doesn’t have a “mixed track record.” They barely ever get it right.
