Apple moves Canadian HQ into downtown offices close to flagship Eaton Centre store

Apple-HQ-Canada-01

Apple’s Canadian HQ used to be located in a 78,000 square foot building on the outskirts of Toronto, but the company has recently moved into a smaller downtown location as it looks for a tenant to take over its previous headquarters for the country, according to sources close to the situation.

It’s unclear if the seemingly smaller location, located at 120 Bremner Boulevard Suite 1600, will be the new Canadian HQ for Apple, but sources say the company is already in the process of selling its old headquarters located at 7495 Birchmount Road in Markham, Ontario through DTZ Property Services.

While Apple’s old property included around 40,000 square feet of office space alongside over 36,000 sq ft of warehouse, it’s unclear if the new corporate address at 120 Bremner, which appears to be mostly office space, is replacing the old facility entirely or if Apple will look for additional warehouse space. Apple’s previous HQ was often used as a shipping and return address for orders placed on Apple’s Canadian online store.

The new location is notably just a few blocks from Apple’s flagship Toronto store located in the Eaton Centre.

Apple recently confirmed the change by updating its corporate address on its Canadian website this month to the new 120 Bremner Boulevard address.

While the store may be closer to the Toronto Eaton Centre it really is closer to the Air Canada Centre and next to Billy Bishop Airport and blocks away from the Entertainment District. You are looking at least a 20 to 30 minutes walk from their new offices to the Eaton Centre.

Ya ok. 5 minute drive. Let’s say around the corner. Much closer than Markham. Source: I live in Toronto.

A lot easier to attract top talent to a downtown HQ versus Markham/Agincourt!

Not that many would turn down a job at Apple…

I wonder how much the soon to be rail link from downtown to Pearson Airport (the rail link that helps bring Toronto into the 1980’s) had to do with the move? I assume proximity to Billy Bishop is not a big factor unless the Canadian execs travel to Ottawa more than California.

I think people might be focusing on the wrong part of what you are saying. If it is closer to the airports and the article mentioned it is used as shipping/return address for the Canadian online store, that sounds like a likely reason for the move.

  2. The Apple Store Eaton Centre is NOT the flagship. The Apple Store at Yorkdale is much beautiful and has much more space.

I agree… this is probably more like the Yorkdale location. (Which is a really nice store!)

It will be soon. The Apple Store is moving to a new 2 floor store in the Nordstrom redevelopment of the north Eaton Centre mall in 2016. It’ll have a Yonge St. entrance as well as one into the mall.
I’m not sure about square footage, but it’ll feature the signature flagship Apple Store architecture such as a glass staircase. The Yorkdale mall store was never a flagship. In fact, there’s never really been a flagship Apple Store in Canada.

Perhaps we’ll see a retail store similar 1 Infinite Loop’s in this new HQ! I won’t hold my breath though ;)

I can remember when the Birchmount Rd facility was bursting at the seams, forcing them to lease most of the space in an adjacent office building. Of course, that was when Apple really cared about and nurtured an active and productive independent retail channel. Oh how the mighty have fallen. :(
