Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 review

The Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 is one of the smallest scanners on the market. It is small enough to fit in most bags and is just large enough to fit a normal piece of paper. Read on for the full review.

For those who like specifics, the scanner weighs just 12.3 ounces. You can scan just about anything with it, including standard sized paper, business cards, receipts, and anything else, with a width of a standard sheet of paper or else, you can think of. Just because the scanner is small does not mean it lacks in features.

It’s incredibly fast and Fujitsu says the ScanSnap S1100 can scan a letter sized paper, with colors, in just 7.5 seconds. Our multiple tests confirm, and in some cases it was even a a little bit quicker. The scanner also has a convenient feature called Continuous Feed Detection which allows you to keep feeding papers through the scanner with no delay. In our tests this was very handy.

Back to the part about size and portability, the scanner is powered by the device (normally a computer) it’s connected to. That means you only need a single USB 2 cable with you to get your scanning jobs done. Since the scanner is so versatile, especially for its size, it can also scan plastic cards, which is convenient for the times when you want to backup something like an ID card or a credit card to your computer’s hard drive. The scans are much more accurate with the S1100 than our normal scanner with a lid.

Usually scanners come with clunky third-party software that slows down your computer and creates hassle. Fujitsu made the right decision by including some intuitive and very simple scanning software.

As you can see in the screenshot above, you connect the ScanSnap to your computer, wait to feed the paper in, click the icon of the action you want to do, and then everything will work from there. You can now easily and quickly scan papers into word processing documents, send papers up to Evernote, and even scan physical pictures into your Mac’s iPhoto library. Perhaps the best part is that the scanner, along with the simple software, works on both Macs and PCs.

Overall, we have enjoyed using Fujitsu’s ScanSnap due to its portability, efficiency, and speed. It has made the usual hassle of scanning documents much simpler and we highly recommend it for anyone in the market for a very portable scanning device. The scanner currently costs around $200 at Amazon.
