The next Macs will likely have one of these Intel Ivy Bridge processors, due in a month

Ivy Bridge CPUs launching by April 29

We have heard reports in recent months that the launch of Intel’s Ivy Bridge processor lineup, which will likely find its way into next-generation Apple products, has been delayed. While an April/May launch was expected for some of the lineup initially, Intel confirmed in February that the launch would likely be pushed to June. Today, a report from CPU World that cited various sources claimed the Ivy Bridge CPUs, including both desktop and mobile chips, will launch between April 22 and April 28.

The quad-core chips set for availability on April 29 include the “Core i7 and Core i7 Extreme families, desktop Core i7, Core i5-3570K, i5-3570T, i5-3550, i5-3550S, i5-3450 and i5-3450S.” These CPUs— specifically the Core i7 mobile chips— could likely end up in a future MacBook Pro, while others could land in a next-gen iMac.

As for the Ultra or U-Series low voltage processors that would presumably go into a new MacBook Air, the report claimed those dual-core processors would not launch until June 3. With rumors that Apple is considering a new MacBook Air-like redesign for upcoming MacBook Pros, or possibly combining the two product lines, it is unclear if that device would stick with these ultra low voltage CPUs.
