Photos claim to show ‘iPhone 5C’ packaging, color-matched wallpapers

iPhone5C1

As Apple’s September 10th iPhone event approaches, a few new photos claiming to show packaged “iPhone 5Cs” and accompanying materials have surfaced online. The first photo comes from website iApps.im, and it purports to show several “iPhone 5C” units in packaging. The “iPhone 5C” is what many are calling Apple’s upcoming lower-cost, plastic-backed iPhone. The packaging in these photos appears to line up with a purported packaging leak from earlier this year

Because of the uncertain track record of the source of the image and the image’s overall low quality, it is difficult to judge if the images are legitimate. However, they do seem to line up with Apple’s past patterns. With the 2012 iPod nano, Apple color-matched the external coloring of the device with the wallpaper. As can be seen in the above image, it appears that the iPhone has a red wallpaper and the device has a red plastic back. The red plastic back would line up with several part leaks from the past few months.

In addition, a pair of images claiming to show “iPhone 5C” packaging materials (the included manual and SIM card ejection tool) have emerged on micro-blogging website Weibo. The track record of the image poster is uncertain, though the image’s contents do lineup with the aforementioned, separately leaked image and past image leaks.

The above image shows a black-front-faced device with a white plastic back. This white plastic back and black face would lineup with an image purportedly leaked out of Pegatron (an Apple manufacturing partner) last month. The white wallpaper and white back also supports the ‘iPhone 5C’ including color-matched wallpapers.

A second image (above) from the same Weibo source purports to show the bundled SIM card ejection tool. The paper materials are printed on semi-oval-shaped paper, and this would match nicely with the leaked semi-oval-shaped plastic packaging.

As for the plastic iPhone’s internals, sources previously said that many of the internals in the device will match up with the currently available iPhone 5.

A few more images have surfaced. The first, directly below, highlights a potential blue “iPhone 5C” model:

Some more colors all in one shot:

This plastic iPhone will join the new iPhone 5S, the higher-end device that will look like the current iPhone 5, include a fingerprint scanner, faster processor, improved camera functionality, and come in a few new color options (including gold and possibly graphite).

Both devices are expected to debut at Apple’s September 10th media event and arrive in stores around September 20th. Apple has begun training its AppleCare support staff on iOS 7 and iTunes Radio, the new software and services that will launch in tandem with the new hardware.

  2. Didn’t apple stop including sim injector tools?

  3. Hieu Pham - 11 years ago

doesn’t look like something Apple would do.

The first picture is a fake.
Look at the second iphone (up left). There are two app icons missing.

    No FaceTime and voice memo?

  6. The dates on the screens look like ’13’. As it is a friday and iPhones are normally released on a friday is this a clue to the date they are going to release them?

  7. Marco Wenk (@wenkmarco) - 11 years ago

Why should they do the wallpapers in one single color, when iOS 7 has that new parallax?

    • Tristan (@Tkf530) - 11 years ago

I think you are confusing the parallax effect for dynamic wallpaper…

      • No, parallax also applies. The effect works by shifting the wallpaper slightly based on how you’re tilting the device, so having a solid color would ruin the effect.

      • PMZanetti - 11 years ago

        @zamzarvideo

And they’re going to incorporate that into still image packing how exactly? Derp.

      • @PMZanetti They make the wallpaper on the packaging the default wallpaper of the device. The parallax effect for an on-device wallpaper wouldn’t work with a single color background.

    • The picture of the blue phone looks like its a textured wallpaper, so you’d still see the parallax effect.

The date looks like the 11th, which is a Wednesday. Last year’s event was on Wednesday the 12th
Expect invitations on the 3rd and the event on grand old 9/11.
    Forget.

    • doctorkrabs - 11 years ago

Looking again, I see that it actually says 10. Apple could still have people excited for 9/11 if they ever wanted
      10th confirmed

    • Tristan (@Tkf530) - 11 years ago

Apple won’t host an event on 9/11 for respect. That’s out of the question.

      • Mr. Grey (@mister_grey) - 11 years ago

What? That’s crazy. No one can ever do anything on that date now till the end of time? Anyone who would give them grief about that is no one worth bothering about.

      • standardpull - 11 years ago

That’s why nothing is held December 6th either.

      • rahhbriley - 11 years ago

I think you missed the sarcasm. The 10th is when it is. And I agree with the sarcastic point.

      • PMZanetti - 11 years ago

Grow up. They wouldn’t do it for PR and marketing purposes.

  9. Christopher Clarke - 11 years ago

Can someone tell me what the black icon is bottom left above dock?

  10. Mr. Grey (@mister_grey) - 11 years ago

More evidence of the idea that the iPhone 5c will have an all black front.

  11. zBrain (@joeregular) - 11 years ago

oh. it still has that fugly safari icon…

    • PMZanetti - 11 years ago

There is nothing wrong with that icon. Mail a new canned response from the internet.

  12. Johan Husak - 11 years ago

So all screens are on, or apple printed images of the iPhone front with a color matched background image… Seems really stupid..

  14. Track My Uptime - 11 years ago

I think the iPhone 5C will be a good idea, but Apple really need to make a 5 inch, 4.5 inch and 4 inch phone, just to suit everyone’s needs.

    • PMZanetti - 11 years ago

No one has need of a 5″ phone. For f***’s sakes, the iPad mini is only 2.9″ larger than that. Get a clue

  15. Alex Walker (@lexx_koto) - 11 years ago

I was hoping some of the icons would be tweaked (especially the gradients). If this is genuine (and it looks legit), it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

  16. mva (@maaubel) - 11 years ago

iPhone 5c will replace the ipod touch… mark my words ;)

    • gpy (@gpy) - 11 years ago

      Don’t think so… there’s a huge market where the CELL features can’t be used…

  17. gpy (@gpy) - 11 years ago

Having an iPhone5, why I have the impression that while 5c will be unveiled, I’ll feel like an idiot to have spent so much money to get the 3% of additional features respect the LC-iPhone? (LowCost)

  18. Dime09 (@dime09) - 11 years ago

These iPhne 5c colours are so dull!! The Nokia Lumia colours are so much more exciting and vibrant.

  19. Stephan Twi (@StephanTwi) - 11 years ago

OmG, the pink ones look like the shipment for the local Kindergarden. Only the Fisher-Price logo is missing. Are they all gone crazy at the Apple design-department?

  20. Stew McCall - 11 years ago

I’m sorry but if these pictures are real then they make the iphone 5C, if it really exists, look like a cheap piece of dollar store tat. I’m sure it may go down well in developing markets though and regardless of how nice the actual phone is the impression that the packaging pictured gives is that it is merely cheap and nasty and looks kind of, well er, Dollar store quality. Sorry. I can’t help it. It is just an opinion. It just looks too cheap!

  21. PMZanetti - 11 years ago

Slightly surprised at the black front glass…because combined with a color it is less visually appealing than white…however, this is Lower Cost iPhone, and the black is much cheaper than the white to produce in mass numbers.

  22. This is just what Jobs did not want Apple products look like. No more respect to Sir Ive.

  23. lilhobbes - 11 years ago

So, I’m going to get an iPhone 5S but I haven’t heard anything about the storage capacities. I know they are getting the 128gb but are they going to drop the 16gb and make the 32gb $200 with contract?

  24. Allritch Tessono - 11 years ago

PARALLAX HUH! I HAVE THAT O MY GS4. AND I HAD THAT ON MY NOTE 2. CRAPPLE FINALLY CAUGHT UP. BUT SORRY IOS IS SO 2 THOUSAND AND LATE. LOL.

  25. majk11 - 11 years ago

I´m really looking forward to price of IPhone 5C in Europe without contract….

  26. Eduards Fiskovics - 11 years ago

well.. In Russia, for example, there is a pre-order launched. The price though is the same as iPhone 5s 16 Gb… http://nbmag.ru/ Who knows…
