Someone assembled their own iPhone 6 using leaked parts (Video)

Following photos that surfaced this morning showing much more subtle antenna breaks on the back of a supposed production model iPhone 6, a video of a device based on the upcoming flagship has surfaced thanks to Feld & Volk, an association of designers and engineers who create luxury custom versions of Apple’s most popular handsets. But what’s interesting about this device is that it seems to actually be built from working parts, and can be seen booting and asking the user to connect to iTunes.

Although many will likely spread this video under the assumption that it’s a fully-working model of the iPhone 6, it’s worth noting that Feld & Volk don’t outright claim this to be the case (although they obviously want us to believe it works). To further prove that this is Feld & Volk’s own work and not simply a leak, we can see plainly that the device—while obviously built from leaked iPhone 6 parts—isn’t running iOS 8. Instead of the blue and white iTunes logo from iOS 7 (that you can see in both devices in the video), iOS 8 features a red/orange and white logo as seen below:

It’s worth noting, however, that it may or may not be actually running iOS at all. When the device is plugged in, the screen comes to life and for a second you can see a gear on screen that doesn’t look familiar and definitely doesn’t appear when setting up any of the current iOS 7 devices. Futhermore, the cable graphic on the screen is located far above the home button indicating that they may not be using a full-size 4.7-inch screen, either.

this is the first time I’ve really noticed this… but this reminds me of the Palm Pre… and thats a good thing

  2. J (@semaj_nalehw) - 10 years ago

I don’t care what anyone says. This looks sexy as hell. They did a really good job at minimising the impact of the antenna bands.

The cable in the screens image is way to high from where it should be.. they used a 4″ LED screen from an iPhone 5s.. pushed it up and hocked it together in a mock iPhone 6 case..

They even give themselves away when they show the 5s, it’s image of the cable and iTunes logo start at the BOTTOM of the screen. heh.. media junkies looking for 15 minutes..

Hi :D I’m Italian, I found information on this website on the iPhone 6 http://www.iphone-6-apple.it/

Im thinking to buy the FIAT 500.
Will it be a good decision?

      • depends on where you are driving. NYC / other metros / Europe, yes. the South / Midwest no. I’d recommend a little larger car. I love the Ford Focus hatch.

These guys resell iPhones and iPads after redressing them in various materials. The $8000+ “pure gold” iPhone on their site is … um … hmm … uh … it’s ah … how do you say … ah …

  6. Sta-Lin (@Stallinus) - 10 years ago

Holy sh** this is overkill !!!

    (rumor wise)

  7. The rounded edge of the glass is seriously sexy and will make the phone feel great in the hand.

I was one of those that was criticizing some aspects of the iPhone 6 design. But, seeing this with all pieces together… oh man… THIS IS B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!!

  9. Yes (@AMillah) - 10 years ago

Lol…and I’ve been of the few saying this whole time wait until you see the finished product before making snap judgements about the bands or whatever else people were criticizing. Now everyones saying “oh wow it looks so beautiful when its assembled”

People never learn. They hated on the 4 when it leaked, then the 5, now the 6. And then they saw the finished product and held one and forgot they ever disliked it. Apple has always been about the attention to detail, thats why seeing a single unassembled part will never do full justice to the finished product. The color of the bands in contrast to the color of the anodized aluminum is just beautiful, again because of that attention to detail that Apple is famous for.

I’m sorry, but the protruding camera lens just shows how awful this design is. It’s amateurish at best.

You don’t reduce the thickness of a device by a millimetre or two, (when no customers have expressed a desire for it, or found a problem with the iPhones current thickness), only to then use that poor decision as a “reason” to have a protruding camera lens.

The better move design-wise is to make the device only slightly thinner, or to keep it at the same thickness and use that volume for a bigger battery, which users have pretty much constantly expressed a desire for and which users have constantly had a problem with.

And yes, I have actual experience at product design.

They could easily have made the phone *thinner* than last years, with a *bigger* battery and a non-protruding camera, but instead … they chose to make it *much* thinner than last years, with presumably the same size battery, and a protruding camera lens. Stupid.

What’s worse is when people prognosticate about a product that hasn’t even been officially announced yet. This designs come from schematics that were leaked back in the beginning of the year.

      • Mr. Grey (@mister_grey) - 10 years ago

I commented because it appears to be made of “real” parts, as the article suggests. If it turns out that it isn’t then my comments don’t apply of course, but it certainly seems at this late date like they are going with a protruding camera.

All I’m saying is that this choice (if true) indicates “bad design” so I’d be happy to learn that it isn’t true actually.

      • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

It’s only bad design to someone that is ignorant.

    • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Just simply ignoranance (referring to your comment not Apple).

      • Mr. Grey (@mister_grey) - 10 years ago

And you are an insulting troll who has some kind of weird bias against me despite my many attempts to be polite to you.

      • o0smoothies0o - 10 years ago

Not insulting, just saying you don’t understand it, thus ignorance. I’m ignorant as to many things like every other human. Just saying you don’t know things that they do. For example you don’t have a clue what you’re saying because unless they make the camera protrude then it would be the same thickness or thicker than the 5S. They can’t make the camera module thinner yet, it’s as simple as that. You have zero knowledge as to what capacity or real world battery life they could add by keeping the same thickness and adding more battery. Moreover it is a matter of numerous other things like weight which is a huge factor, whether you realize it or not.

      • jorge1170x - 10 years ago

Yeah this guy goes straight for the personal insults if you offend his God in any way. Just like tallest_skill or whatever that guy’s name was used to do. A protruding camera would be in bad taste if another company did it, but since it’s his ‘fave’ company that did it, well then, that’s a great design move there Apple!.

    • Named Name - 10 years ago

Think you’re better at designing than Jony Ive? … Wow, just wow.

    • Teieste Yaska - 10 years ago

I don’t think this is real? It looks like a different phone they built and are booting iOS on it.

  11. Farah Alsharif - 10 years ago

wither it is gonna be like this or not, this looks so sexy <3

  12. Cun Con - 10 years ago

    Just beautiful.

  13. It looks like a taller iphone 3 but the back of the phone looks terrible to me. The bands and camera, nothing beautiful about it.

  14. Computer_Whiz123 - 10 years ago

Omg. I KNEW this would happen.

When do the sheep start lining up?
I’ve seen a preview of Samsung’s next ad … genius (not the Apple – store kind).

    • Eli Matar - 10 years ago

      LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Already thinking about what I’ll need for my overnight stay outside the Apple store.

    • Let me guess another Apple bashing Samsung “advert”? Where instead of advertising their own products they see it fit to make others look bad, often falsely. In fact the recent “adverts” don’t even make the products look bad. Rather the buyers. Which isn’t really going to help them in getting new customers is it? What trail of thought did they think Apple customers would take? In fact any other customer they’ve insulted?
“Oh this company is insulting me for my Apple purchase, I must go out and buy one of their products”
Samsung has no class. Their products are very often pieces of plastic with the biggest specs they can throw in that never work to their full potential because of the terrible one-for-all Android OS. You don’t think Apple couldn’t make an iPhone with 4 cores of useless processors and 103 GB RAM? In fact if Apple took the specs of the latest smartphone of theirs and mimicked them. I guarantee they’d build a thinner, faster, more efficient device very easily. They choose not to, they understand that sticking stupid specs like that in a phone is completely unceccesary and the average user doesn’t care about specs. They care about how the phone works in the real world. iPhones are and will always work better. Samsung haven’t worked this out yet and will always be behind Apple.

      • thepfhor - 10 years ago

Well, yes MOST of their products are plastic pieces of trash. But Samsung’s TV’s! Mmmmmmm delicious. My last three big-screens have been Samsung’s and it’s a beautiful thing.

  17. Billy.Noyes (@TechCastUK) - 10 years ago

Even if they did, it would have cost a tonne of cash to build one. The shells cost around $2K depending on the dealer

  18. Scott Hilt (@scotthilt) - 10 years ago

These “leak” stories are so dumb and pointless. I don’t understand why people just can’t wait until Apple actually releases new products. But then again it’s not about delivering actual news anymore. It’s about selling ads and getting clicks.

  19. What if the sapphire display that everyone thought was just the display was actually THE iPhone!?

I think all the rumors we are hearing about, as far as the components go, are correct. except the body/frame of the leaks. I’m not feeling the way this phone looks. I’ve been waiting to upgrade for a while too. dammit. I don’t know how much longer my 4S & I can hold out for.

  20. distressedcactus - 10 years ago

I never doubted that it would turn out great…

  21. Teieste Yaska - 10 years ago

I don’t think this is real? it looks like a different phone booting as an iPhone 6. This is pretty hypebeast but not quite as bad as designing your own iPhone 6 case which I saw a few weeks back (http://www.case-monkey.com/iphone-6-case-design-your-own-custom-case/) they did that for iPhone 5 too and you reload your design when the specs come out (look at it obviously fake) is this supposed to the iPhone 6L?
