After officially introducing its new iPhone at today’s press event, we now have details on pricing and availability for the device from Apple.

The smaller 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will cost $199 $299 $399 for 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB models, while the iPhone 6 Plus will cost $299/$399/$499 for the same storage options. That pricing is of course on the usual two-year contract through a carrier. This time around Apple has dropped a 32GB option from the iPhone lineup, offering customers big incentive to spend an extra $100 to jump up from a 16GB model to a 64GB iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. Both devices come in the same silver, gold, and space gray color options as the previous generation iPhone 5s.

While there was some speculation leading up to today’s event that the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus would ship at a later date than the iPhone 6, Apple announced today that both devices will ship on September 19 in the US, France, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan. Preorders kick off on September 12 and Apple plans to bring the new iPhones to 115 counties by end of the year.

  1. 16gb, fuck you Apple. This have been the standard for so many years. You must love the big fat margain you have on those storage chips…

    • Larry W Brown - 10 years ago

Not everyone is a gb snob. I’ve had a 16gb 5c for a year and its perfect for me – and there are many more like me. Just buy a bigger one!

    • Alex Tejena (@AlexTejena) - 10 years ago

Yeah, Larry is correct. If you’re a person like me who has spotify premium and doesnt use many apps the 16GB Version is prefect for you. However if you use a lot of professional and bulky apps you’ll need the resources and capacity because usually those apps cost some money.

    • I don’t keep much in my phone. I stream my music and don’t have that much of apps. But the galley takes up more and more space. Since Apple doesn’t allow you to clear the cache files of apps, it quickly eat up the memory that’s free. For example, my Spotify app takes about 900mb (ridiculous amount considering it’s a streaming app) and I do not have offline playlists. Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin takes upp around 1gb all together. The only way, as far as I know, to clear the cache is to reinstall the app. So 32, 64 and 128gb of storage options had been better and more 2014-ish.

    • I assumed this was because of the price of flash, offering 64/128GB. 16GB is still reasonable for some and allows for a cheaper entry model, rather than starting with a 32GB. I annoyed because the storage size I’m use to has gone and I need to fork out for double!

      • Josh Kennedy - 10 years ago

Actually, the 64gb model is now the same price as the 32gb was. So you’re actually getting double the space for the same price.

  2. darkenv2 - 10 years ago

    16gb is pathetic

  3. PMZanetti - 10 years ago

Nicely done. 16 GB keep that money rolling in. For people that actually care about storage, a huge new incentive with these options.

  4. scumbolt2014 - 10 years ago

16gb is for business customers that aren’t taking a bunch of photos or videos on their phones. 32gb would be overkill. Quit whining. The prices for the 64gb and the 128gb options are great too.

  5. Patrick (@PatrickDotStar) - 10 years ago

I just don’t understand why they still start with 16gb instead of 32? for me 32 is perfect but thanks to apple i have to pay 100€ more. why just why?

    • Adam-1D - 10 years ago

you’re forgetting that 64GB on iPhone 5s 200 euros more. basically the 64GB iPhone got a price drop.

      • jorge1170x - 10 years ago

Good reasoning and true, but the reality is in this day and age $100 to get you to 32 would be beyond outrageous and $200 to get to 64 would be downright criminal. The cold-hearted setup presented today is pure greed on Apple’s part, nothing more nothing less. Storage is dirt cheap and starting at 32 is now the expected norm and rightly so.

How much is iPhone 6 plus with OUT a contract? I want to keep my unlimited Verizon data plan.

    • $749, you can see the off contract price on Apples site if you click on T-Mobile.

      • jorge1170x - 10 years ago

Yeah but 16GB of non-expandable storage? I wonder how many people will want that – 50% at most? who knows? I think a lot of people will be flirting with 1K or over that by the time you add in taxes, cases, etc. Ouch…a 64GB OnePlus One is with great looks and incredible specs is literally half that.

  7. Apple premium for those who want more storage and a bigger screen. Only Apple!!

Those profit margins are going to be HUGE for Tim Cook and company this holiday season!! LOL

  8. Shirlene Jones - 10 years ago

too bad that not everyone that likes apple, can’t get one for the outrages prices. Some people are on disability that would love an iphone 6 or plus. Seems like every time they get a raise the prices go up. Its just a damn shame. I would love to have an Iphone 6 plus, but I have to stick to my iphone 3gs. Oh well maybe I can someday before I pass away. Yea right.

    • Brand new iPhones (or any brand new tech or luxury devices) have never been for those on a limited income. With that said, you’ll now be able to get iPhone 5 and 5cs for a much cheaper cost.

    • Jack Terrier - 10 years ago

That’s over-entitled-unappreciative-a/hole for “Thank you, working class people, for working so hard to support me when I can’t do so myself.”

      You’re welcome.

  9. News flash: Apple has been using storage for price discrimination in iDevices since the 10GB iPod in 2002. It has nothing to do with how much the storage really costs, and everything about making money for the company by providing multiple price tiers. You might be able to justify the 16GB model as the one for people who put everything in iCloud, but its primary reason for existence is to provide a low apparent entry price while simultaneously upselling people to the next price tier.

That being said… $100 is $100, but it’s not a huge premium on top of the two-year cellular contract that you’re about to get locked into.

    • dompanther - 10 years ago

I value the storage much more than the cellular capability. The carriers make the killing off people like me, not Apple. It’s simple, if you don’t like the pricing don’t buy it. Apple Is not in business to sell iPhones at the lowest possible prices it can. Apple sets price points to maximize profit. Apple has already factored you into the pricing equation and it has determined it doesn’t need you to buy an iPhone in order to maximize its profit.

  10. eliz (@el_iz_) - 10 years ago

It is available in September 26 in Turkey starting from 2349 TL ($1065) which is more than 1.5 times the price in US.

  11. One thought on the iPhone 6 and 6+, if they share the same CPU/GPU then you might get better performance out of the iPhone 6 than 6+. It will required more GPU processing to drive those extra pixels so your frame rates will go down on the + if they really are running identical GPUs.

Not a big deal to me but something to think about.

    • Ray Wang - 10 years ago

As you can see in the spec, IPhone 6 is actually faster than iPhone6+

      • jorge1170x - 10 years ago

I would think the difference will be imperceptible to most!

  12. jfu222 (@jfu222) - 10 years ago

Hi could someone clarify two things for me?

Sept 11th at midnight? Or sept 12th at midnight?(technically sept 13th.

Also does anyone know if AT&T is no longer grandfathering in unlimited data if I upgrade?

    Thanks!

    • imacaddict - 10 years ago

I read an answer by an AT&T Employee who stated yes you’ll be able to keep your unlimited data plan (make sure you call AT&T before placing the order to ensure its done correctly either the day of or day before). Pre-orders start at 12:00AM PT on Friday September 12

  13. gdte17 - 10 years ago

It seems now that the iPhone 6 won’t arrive to your home until Early October?

  14. Can we somehow see the list of 115 countries? … I hope Serbia will get iPhone soon!

  15. Charles Stanley - 10 years ago

I was able to pre-order some minutes ago at betastall.com, Waiting till it ships on next friday

  16. ibtrackin - 10 years ago

Horrible way to make that statement, but I do agree. for those who say the have a iPhone 4, or 5c etc, remember that the camera and photos will take more space. As will iOS 8, which steal a good part of the 16GB so 32 should just be standard. Having it start at 32GB doesn’t take away much margin from 16GB, but the want you to buy ‘APPS’ and why deter people rom doing so due to not having space. just odd, make it back in the app store. you have 2 years to get it back

  17. Rodger J Scarbeck - 10 years ago

why do phone companies say the price is $199 with a contract when in fact you have to pay a higher rate just for phone service I’m on att 4 lines for $160 you know they won’t honor that rate with a subsidy

  18. Rea Geneille Debisette - 9 years ago
