NZ carrier Spark offers customers life-sized cardboard emoji characters to reserve their spot in line for iPhone 6
Apple’s second wave of iPhone 6 sales has just kicked off with customers in New Zealand getting access to the device through retail stores and online as we roll into the morning of September 26 in the country. We’re also approaching the launch in a total of 20 countries today as the device goes on sale the morning of September 26 local time in the following locations:
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and United Arab Emirates.
One exception: Apple’s website currently lists iPhone 6 models in United Arab Emirates as available to order from Sept. 27.
While lines have already started forming, New Zealand carrier Spark is offering customers the ability to have a life-sized cardboard emoji character reserve their spot in line (pictured above via NzHerald). The cardboard character waits in line, and the customer receives a notification when it gets close to the front. The carrier also likely hopes it will cut down on managing chaotic lines today.
Apple originally launched the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus earlier this month in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. It later announced sales of 10 million units for the two new models during the first three days of launch.
Also launching September 26 is perhaps the iPhone 6’s biggest competitor, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4, which Samsung decided to launch early in response to pressure from strong iPhone 6 demand. It, however, only becomes available in Korea today with device expected to ship in the US and 140 countries by the end of October. Apple said that it plans to have iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launched in 115 countries by the end of the year.

Nearly 4am and online apple store still not selling here in NZ. No indication as to what time it will. Frustrating
Still offline at 10:50am local, two locations in Wellington only received the Plus variant, which of course opened at midnight to clear them. Still plenty of 6s about.
Hope the Apple store is open for them when the sale starts! :(
4.20 am in New Zealand and the Apple Online Store STILL hasn’t opened up for orders. Apple are only selling the phones unlocked without a carrier contract on it. But, if you go to any of the three major carriers in New Zealand, you HAVE to get the phone on a 24 month contract. No picking up just the handset from them. And their stock is extremely limited according to them…
I’m still waiting for the Apple Online Store to allow orders :(
What about other countries ? Somebody knows more than “by the end of year” ?
I pre-ordered my 6+ on the day pre-orders started and mine isn’t shipping until 11/09 – 11/27. Not exactly thrilled about that.

i think it’s true, it will be exactly midnight here in europe. they are both down right now.
Now the Apple store is completely down. They are preparing for the European rush.
If Apple will not sell at midnight, telecoms here in Denmark will. So I have 1 or 2 alternate web sites to visit at midnight. It will not be SIM locked there, but carry a contract (max 6 months as that is legal limit in Denmark). But even with contract it is same price or cheaper than not locked with Apple.

The Apple Store in Spain came online at 1am local time after being down for a couple of hours. I went online and ordered and received a 5-7 days delivery estimation. Not too bad.
The new iPhone 6 plus which is released few days back was bending when the customers are keeping it in the front pocket …. the real reason for bending it that the metal utilized for making is simply and most malleable metals, second only to gold…
Considering the breadth, height and thickness of the iPhone 6 Plus (158.1×77.8×7.1mm), carrying the new Apple smartphone in a pocket that has little space for the handset to slide in or out is risky, and can lead to the bending of the phone, as reported by many users. Placing it in the back pocket could have even more disastrous consequences. The pressure put on the device while sitting now appears to have a higher chance to damage the device, unlike previous iPhone variants.
