Following rumors of a possible Mac mini refresh earlier this year and references on Apple’s own website, a new report says Apple could introduce an update to the product as early as next month. MacRumors cites a source that has provided accurate tips in the past claiming the new Mac mini could launch alongside new iPads and OS X Yosemite expected at an event in October.
MacRumors has now received word that Apple is planning a Mac mini update possibly launching next month alongside new iPad models and presumably OS X Yosemite. While we have been unable to obtain corroborating information of an imminent update, the mere possibility of an update as soon as next month is likely to be welcome news to Mac mini fans. The single source has provided no additional details on what to expect in terms of a next-generation Mac mini, but has provided accurate information in the past.
Earlier this year more evidence of a refreshed Mac mini appeared when Apple mentioned a “mid-2014” briefly on its website.
Previous rumors said the update would include Intel Iris graphics, 802.11ac wireless networking, and Gigabit LAN, although that was the same report that claimed the new machine would launch back in February. The current Mac mini that Apple is still selling was last updated in late 2012.

Long overdue. No computing device should go without an update for over a year.
Awesome! I’ve been holding off on one for several months now to see if anything would be announced by years end.
I wonder if Apple has been waiting for an updated version with graphics and ports that can support the mythical retina / 4K displays that Apple may release one day (October?).
A rumored new Mac Mini, a rumored new 12″ Retina MacBook Air, Intel Broadwell chips just becoming available to “select customers”, Mac OS X Yosemite due in October …. Methinks this is looking more and more like a special Mac event in October, what do you think?
Of course there will be a special Apple Event in October, like in almost every year.
I’m going to treat this like a Loch Ness Monster siting. Until I have hard evidence, I don’t believe it.
YES!!! I sitting with my finger on the button waiting to buy one. For well over a year now. The 2012 model, no matter what SSD and RAM I cram into it, is just not cutting it CPU/GPU wise.
I”m looking forward to this.
About bloody time! And more than a casual speed bump I hope.
But will it bend? (Question on everybody’s mind)
“Previous rumors said the update would include Intel Iris graphics, 802.11ac wireless networking, and Gigabit LAN”
Given that the current model has gigabit ethernet, I’d expect the new one to have it too.
Could be thinner and should be supporting 4K
Christmas in October if true.
I am very, very ready for a Mac mini update.
How about an Apple TV sized Mac mini that can be used with an iPad as the monitor? How great does that sound??
I wouldn’t be interested unless it has at least a GeForce GTX 775M and 32GB ram option. 3.5GHz Quad-core would be nice.
