Sleep Cycle has updated its smart alarm app for iPhone to take advantage of the larger displays on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus using an adaptive layout to show more content at once.
The updated version of Sleep Cycle also takes advantage of HealthKit for iOS 8 users as the app can now share sleep tracking information with Apple’s Health app. Sleep Cycle says to begin sleep tracking for at least one night before activating sharing between the smart alarm clock and Apple’s Health app.
Sleep Cycle allows iPhone users to capture sleep analysis data by placing the iPhone between the sheets and mattress where you sleep while connected to a power source to measure sleep duration and quality. Previously that data was presented only in the Sleep Cycle app, but the latest update allows iPhone users to also view that data alongside other information available in Apple’s Health app on iOS 8 like step tracking, heart rate, and more.
The app is 99¢ on the App Store and worth trying out for anyone interested in adding sleep tracking data to Apple’s Health app without buying a dedicated fitness band. For more apps that take advantage of Apple’s Health app, check out our running list of supported apps.

I find that MotionX 24/7 has a far less drain on my battery throughout the night and doubles as an activity tracker if you prefer. It also has the ability to record sleep disturbances; sleep apnea, snoring, talking, and so on. The only down side is that the UI is inferior to Sleep Cycle.
I’m currently using MotionX for activity tracking/heart rate monitor and Sleep Cycle for sleep tracking. I think Sleep Cycle does a much better job of waking you up at the right time.
This is really not what is needed by those who want their sleep cycle checked. The best process for those of us with a CPAP would a device that can track directly from the CPAP machine, either from an adapter that extracts the data off of the memory card or adapter that attaches into the card memory slot and reads the data as it happens.
The APP requires you to place the iPhone on your bed. Personally I have been known to push my pillow off of my bed, which means I’ll probably be pushing the iPhone off the bed too.
Used this app for years. I have the joy of 80% of the time not having to wake up to anything specific and so just wake up when I wake up. But in the times I do have something early in my day, I use this App every time.
I used to be the guy who set 15,000 alarms to be sure I woke up. At first using this app (about a year or two ago) I set back up alarms just to be safe. Now, I use it nearly every day to wake me up a great time, and it never shuts off until I turn it off – preventing me from over sleeping. Whether I am exhausted and can only sleep 2 hours or getting a full 8-9 hours of sleep, it has never failed to wake me up. It was the best dollar I have spent in my life.
That’s nice. But I thought you were not to charge iphone while covered because it’s a heating issue that can lead to fires or burns or damage to the phone
