Samsung decided to publish an editorial on the history of portable audio devices today and it conveniently leaves out Apple and the iPod. It instead jumps straight from cassette players to the company’s first MP3 Player, the Samsung YEPP (You remember the Samsung YEPP, right?). Who needed to wait two more years for an iPod when you could hold a whole 10 4-minute songs on your 40MB YEPP?
Samsung then jumps to smartphones: “Starting in 2006, as smartphones became more prominent, and featured a music player function, MP3 players started to phase out.” iPhone? What iPhone?
Samsung points out support for 24 bit, 192kHz audio in the new Galaxy Note 4 music player, the one thing that Apple doesn’t yet support. It’s also the one thing that the majority of consumers, apart from audiophiles, simply don’t care about.

When Samsung mentions Apple in commercials, we say Apple doesn’t need to mention competitors.
Why would they?
It’s their ad. Of course they wouldn’t talk about Apple or Sony Walkman or Rio MP3 player.
Yeah it’s like BMW saying check out our new 3 series and while your here have a look at these old Mercs. They wouldn’t why should Samsung?

What a joke, competitor or not Samsung and every other competitors wouldn’t be where they are in the mobile industry if it wasn’t for the iPod, iPhone and iPad.
Something else of not is that they chose a video player for the mighty TVC part that isn’t compatible with iPhone or Mac browsers unless you download Flip4Mac. That was most likely a calculated choice to make the simpler minded Apple users (non-techy that is…) to think their computer is obsolete.
While that is silly (not even mentioning the iPod), as an audiofile and a field taper of live music, I really dislike the lack of movement from Apple in 24 bit support, higher sample rates than 48 KHz with the built in hardware (I use a R∅DE mic for my iPhone that records 24/96 natively and writes to the storage on the iPhone), or Apt-X Bluetooth support. It really is shameful. It would cost Apple little in engineering cost, not increase the hardware costs at all, and make many audiophiles happy…
Leaving out the iPod as a music player would be like leaving out the Maxim MG08 machine gun in WW1 for the most deadliest of weapons. Samsung is definitely rewriting history for its own benefit.
