Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak–who hasn’t always been complimentary about the company’s products since being no longer involved–expressed great enthusiasm for the Apple Watch in a brief video interview with the BBC.
“This watch will be so special,” he said, describing the display as “almost like a little piece of art.” While other smartphone manufacturers have struggled to sell in significant numbers, Woz has no doubt that the Apple Watch will succeed: “Millions of people will buy this watch right from the start.”
Woz showed off his own current watch during the interview, a huge, eccentric wristpiece featuring genuine vacuum tubes. Jony Ive didn’t return the compliment, the New Yorker observing that he asked “What is that?” in mock affront at the sight. Ive talked at unusual length about the Apple Watch in the profile written by the magazine’s Ian Parker.

Woz – Always the “Uber-Geek.” ;)
I do believe the watch will sell, but part of me has doubts about it selling in ginormous numbers. Admittedly that probably largely due to my own skepticism about the value of this rev.1 product considering the battery life and perceived value of this product over what I already get out of my iPhone 6.
We’ll see. I’m still waiting on the full product pricing and I will be interested in the sales numbers when it debuts, but personally I’m likely gonna wait at least for rev.2
Ives is in a vacuum tube himself
Man’s name is Ive
I’m so glad I got the chance to see this man speak in person.
Woz, always the joker, told the story about how he got that watch and how rare they are. He also added that “TSA has never seen one.”, implying that it frequently got him stopped at the airport. :)
-5 points for trying to pick a fight. Stupid. Can you imagine if we were all expected to return indirect compliments in publications or through the media? “I don’t kill kittens for fun.” turns into “Denies killing kittens for fun.”
The Apple Watch won’t be indispensable from day one, even year one. It will be wanted, sure, but not indispensable. It will be in 10 years time though.
As the guy who designed the watch that Woz wears, I am honored for my product to be called crap by the best product designer in the world.
