Apple aiming to launch Apple Watch in second-wave of countries by late June

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced during the company’s Q2 earnings call this evening that he anticipates Apple Watch will launch in additional countries by late June. As of right now, Apple Watch is only available in 9 countries. A report earlier this month claimed that Apple would launch Watch in a second-wave of countries on May 8th, but we quickly debunked that rumor.

Cook went on to say that Apple is quickly leaning about customer preferences when it comes to Apple Watch. This includes the varying popularity of the Sport, Apple Watch, and Edition variations. Cook also touted throughout the call that there are more than 3500 Apple Watch apps available, which is more than both the iPad and iPhone had available at their respective launches.

Cook didn’t mention which specific countries would be included in the second-wave of Apple Watch counties. Availability has been extremely limited in the first 9 counties, so it remains to be seen how big the second-wave of countries will in fact. Cook also pointed out that Apple Watch was shipped to more pre-order customers in the initial 9 countries over the weekend than Apple had originally anticipated it would be capable of.

“We were able to deliver Apple Watch to more customers over the weekend than we initially expected. I’m generally happy with how we’re moving with the ramp. With any new product, you end up taking more time to ramp. By some time in late June we currently anticipate being in a position that we could begin to sell the Apple Watch in additional countries”

    Late June… it’s a shame.

    • Only late June!
      This is a lack of very poor organization, if so still comes first to second version of Watch the rest of the world. Is not admissible this lack of respect for the other countries that still can not buy (2 months later than other countries?).
      I’ll think very well buy or not this Apple Watch.

      Yes, “it’s a shame” that the Apple Watch is so successful, that for the first 2 months of its introduction demand has been outstripping Apple’s suppliers’ abilities to meet that demand.

      Apple’s competitors did not experience that “shame”. Their smartwatches did not have much demand, and their product could be found sitting on store shelves, with few customers wanting them even on the day that they launched.

        One could be excused for expecting a company as cashed-up as Apple to ramp up production – when current suppliers can’t meet demand, seek out other suppliers or build your own additional factories … ?

        There is only so much capacity in the entire world to manufacture these components. And some of these assembly lines take over a year to reach their target yield rates. And as for building their own assembly lines, Apple has actually paid their manufacturing partners for many of their assembly lines. For instance, Samsung has built entire factories devoted to Apple components of the iPhone. And that’s one of the reasons why Samsung has remained the major supplier of Ax chips in the iPhone.

        It’s always interesting when some people, rather than acknowledging a completely legit comment about Apple’s supply chain problems, opt to instead deflect it onto the failings of their competitors instead.

        Apple aren’t like their competitors. They enjoy the unwavering and unfettered support of fans the world over, many of whom have spent an absolute fortune over the years despite many of their products being reiterations of previous ones. That dedication is the reason why Apple are the company they are now.

        Try and have a bit of respect for those people as opposed to defending a company who cares not one jot about you, I or anyone else.

        Well Ms. Troll, whenever I DO respond to a “legit comment”, I DO respond with a “legit” response…

        Unfortunately, when someone’s complete comment is: “Late June… it’s a shame.”, that CANNOT be considered to be a “legit comment”. It expresses nothing of any consequence, without context.

        My response to that brief and unsupported comment was purposely meant to be flippant and humorous.

        Your hostile response to my facetious comment shows you to be humourless.

        As for your comment about my “deflecting” to the “failings of their competitors”… If you can’t find the irony in the failings of those competitors’ products, and the irony in the failings of the Android trolls (your “cousin trolls”?) who made fun of the Apple Watch and predicted its doom, then you are apparently incapable of appreciating the humour in it.

        Flippant yes, humorous not at all.

        Believe me, I can completely find the irony in the failings of those competitors’ products, many of which are garbage. What I can’t find though is how you found the failings of those competitors’ products in the statement “Late June… it’s a shame”.

        Which is my point. On any other website it would be classed as trolling.

        Then allow me to help you “find” it…

        Without any context or supporting explanation, “it’s a shame” can be taken several ways, including:

        1) the person lives in one of those other countries, and was looking forward to buying the Apple Watch BEFORE June.
        2) the person lives in a country already served by Apple Watch sales, but feels compassion for those people in other countries who must wait until June.
        3) the person finds it “shameful” that Apple doesn’t have the capability to produce enough Apple Watches for everyone in the world, all at once.

        It is the third interpretation that we have been hearing lately from the many Android trolls, who have been using that as a slight against Apple and the Apple Watch, implying that very few Apple Watches are actually being produced, or (in their words) that Apple has created an artificial demand for the Apple Watch.

        I chose to use the third interpretation, to write a humorous response to all of those Android trolls.

        The fact that this seems to bother you so much, suggests that you apparently want to defend those fallacious comments from the Android trolls.

      I am not even thinking of buying an apple watch. Happy with my normal watch and iPhone. They don’t need to be connected.

    Your post is wrong. We never said that the apple watch will be launched on 8th May in the second wave of countries. We only said that the pre-order will start on 8th May. Nothing More. We never mentioned a launch data

      Unfortunately it was wrong since today it’s 8 May as you can see and the pre order didn’t start here in Italy. Anyway I must really congratulate with you because instead of arguing and taking your own responsability discussing with people who state a legit opinion accusing you of making money with the huge traffic such a lie generated, you just deleted their comments and blocked their accounts so they can’t tell the truth while at the same time you just keep the bogus comments of very naive people who write “oh it’s not your fauls.. we still respect you very much.. you are amazing!!” .. that’s very very pathetic.

    Well, was there any app available when iPhone first launched?

    Mr Cook should explain why only about 50 of those 3500 apps are in the Apple Watch App Store rankings. Apple is only highlighting some apps and hiding the rest.

    Hi, I’m from Germany and I still wait for my Apple Watch Sport Silver 42 mm and green Wrist. I ordered on Friday 10.4. at 9:11AM immidiatly when the Online Store reopened after a Break. My delivery says June, but I hope to get my Watch from begining till middle of May. I cannot wait longer with patient.
