On the same night that VidCon kicks off in Los Angeles, Google has released a new version of YouTube for iOS. Earlier this week, the Android version of the app was updated with a fix for those annoying videos filmed vertically. Now, that update is making its way to iOS.
Available now on the App Store, version 10.28 of YouTube for iOS now supports the ability to view vertically filmed videos fullscreen when your device is in portrait mode. If your device is in landscape mode, the video will still be letterboxed on either side. While it doesn’t perfectly solve the problem, it’s a nice way to compensate for it.
In addition to a fix for vertical videos, today’s update also adds the ability to turn on notifications for specific channels via the app. If you enable this feature, you’ll receive a push notification to your device whenever your favorite YouTuber uploads a new video.
The update is available now on the App Store. YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki just left the stage in Los Angeles at VidCon and you can read more about what she had to say here.
