Apple today has released the sixth developer preview of OS X 10.11 El Capitan. Just last week the company released beta 5 to developers, although the update appeared to be very minor and didn’t include any noticeable changes. It is likely that this new beta has a similar focus, with Apple working mainly on under-the-hood bug fixes and improvements. The update carries the build number 15A244d.
We’ll update this post with enhancements as they are discovered. The update is available via the Mac App Store now and via the Developer Center.
– New wallpaper (Thanks Robert!)
– New icon for “General” in System Preferences” (Thanks Robert!)

If you plan to use Xcode on this build, DO NOT INSTALL IT, because all of the current Xcode builds (6.4 and 7 beta) keep crashing.
Xcode is fine here.

It’s not fine at all. Notice how it says “Indexing”? It will never go away and don’t try to compile anything because that won’t work, and if you dare to open Interface Builder….instant crash
Try opening Interface Builder.
I wish I had of read this comment 10 minutes ago. My Xcode isn’t crashing but I’m trying to build my app and the progress is halting just short of half way through.
This is happening to me as well. How can this be considered a developer preview if the developer tools don’t even work on it?
xcode is also fine here. I’m using 7b4 to play with swift 2.0 and it hasn’t impeded my progress at all. I haven’t tried to use xcode 6.x with 10.11 since it was initially incompatible so I am unable to comment on 6.4 working on 10.11 beta6.
I want to add that so far I have been working in pure swift and C projects with no ObjC, in case that matters any in the reproduction of this bug.
OK, I can confirm that anything using xib files or storyboards is broken. Ignore my previous statement about xcode working just fine. See more info here: https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/13170
The IB is only broken for iOS apps. Works fine for MacOS NIBs and Storyboards …
I’ve fixed it by installing El Capitan Beta 5 on top of 6, available on this website: https://imzdl.com/osx.html
It’s called “OS X 10.11 Beta 5 Delta Update” (https://imzdl.com/direct/El-Capitan-Beta-5/OS-X-10.11-Beta-5-Delta-Update)
I did not have to revert the firmware version though.
(Yes Apple, I’m using an illegal website in order to fix your issues).
THANK YOU! This got me back to work nice and early this AM :)
For the official URL, so that you guys install the delta from Apple’s servers, rather than imzdl:

I did the same and Xcode started working properly again. BUT I have lost the sound (even reverting the firmware version). Did it happen the same to you? Thank you.
I want iOS PB3 asap :P
works great so far
p.s. your mobile website is a cluttered mess
continuous scrolling between spaces is now possible like before (f yeah!)
new “General” setting icon in system preference
when putting an app over a fullscreen app in mission control it’s now much faster at creating a split screen space, though sometimes it doesn’t allow you to drop the app and it just bounces back

Thanks Robert! Im a fan of dark blue wallpapers.
Can someone upload the full resolution wallpaper for us still on Yosemite/PB3
Any one got a full res copy to upload at all? Thanks!

Haven’t tested XCode yet, but the overall performance seems okay. Beta 4 was a hot mess. Beta 5 stabilized things well. Six seems to be running smoothly. Adobe products struggle with debug kernel it would seem.
Xcode 6.4 keeping crash after upgrade to beta 6!!!!!!!!!
Beta 5 was better than Beta 6 Update.
Time to time is “crashing” .. the mouse cursor.. stop moving.. and it says “loading” I don’t know what happen but I’m 100% is from this latest update.
Everything worked fine before.
One thing I have missed since Beta 2 is the “diskutil /repairPermissions /” command. It has been a life saver on many occasions in the past & now it’s gone. Why? Now I have to run the GUI version and choose “First Aid”? It makes no sense that it’s gone…
You probably should read release notes. “System file permissions are automatically protected, and updated, during Software Updates. The Repair Permissions function is no longer necessary”
El Cap uses rootless which sandboxes the system files from being accessed by third party apps, so there’s no permissions to repair, as the system doesn’t permit access. This is what makes El Cap run smoother. Be happy, yo won’t ever have to repair permissions again.
Ahha, I though rootless would only be implemented in 10.12… thanks for that.
No more Secure Empty Trash…
Beta 6 failed to install on my iMac and Mail is eating up all my physical memory on Beta 5. If you are experiencing slowness, do the following:
– open Activity Monitor
– open Mail
Watch the physical memory get eaten up.
