Apple today announced a new partnership with PayAnywhere, a credit card reader that serves more than 300,000 locations around the United States. As part of the partnership, the latest version of the PayAnywhere reader will also be sold in all Apple Stores beginning this September for $39.95.
The PayAnywere Mobile Reader accepts Apple Pay, as well as a variety of other contactless NFC payment solutions and traditional magnetic stripe credit cards. It’s also EMV-capable. To promote Apple Pay usage, the company is also offering merchants $5,000 of free Apple Pay transaction processing.
“We are very excited to launch sales exclusively in Apple Stores throughout the country,” said Marc Gardner, CEO of PayAnywhere, in a statement. “To demonstrate how simple and easy it is to accept Apple Pay, we have chosen to offer all customers the first $5,000 free in Apple Pay transaction processing with a new PayAnywhere account.”
In an interview with CNBC, Apple Pay head Jennifer Bailey explained why she thinks Apple’s offering is ahead of the competition. Bailey remarked that Apple Pay offers the best customer experience of any mobile payment solution, while also being the most secure solution.
PayAnywhere’s Mobile Reader will be available in Apple retail locations beginning this September for $39.95. The widespread availability of the reader will undoubtedly help Apple Pay become even more synonymous with mobile payment solutions and will help Apple reach its goal of having more than 1.5 million locations support Apple Pay by the end of the year.
