Sony plans to enable you to play PS4 games on your Mac (but you’ll still need the PS4)

If you own a PS4 but end up fighting for access to the big TV when other family members want to use it for watching TV shows or movies, Sony is working on an app for that. Sony’s president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida tweeted that the company is working on an app to stream games to both PCs and Mac.

The games console already has Remote Play functionality built in, but it’s of very limited use as yet …

Remote Play currently only streams game play to a small number of Sony smartphones. If you have either an iMac or a large monitor, the new app will allow you to get your big screen game fix without hogging the family TV.

Sony hasn’t yet given any indication on when the app is likely to be released.

Very good, thank you Sony. It will be interesting to see how the PS4 will connect to the iMac in this case, seeing as how Apple have intentionally blocked virtually all outside (read: non-Apple) connection, providing only quasi-proprietary Thunderbolt, which, if used, by Sony, will be baulkingly expensive. Therefore I imagine it will have to be by USB3, a more recent addition and not available on my mid-2011 iMac. As far as I know, USB2 does not have the capacity to convey the mass video data involved.

What? Did you not read the article or understand how the remote play function works? There is no connecting the PS4 to the computer, its strictly streaming the video feed from the PS4 to the remote application.

      What?

It’s through the network, obviously. Wifi/Ethernet

What about an Apple & Sony partnership that included a Sony made SSD inside a Mac Pro?

(Dual boot) (Sony = Orbis OS)(Apple = Darwin aka iOS, OS X, Watch OS etc) (Darwin & Orbis = BSD)(BSD = the best system on the planet)
At $3,000+ Sony would still get paid, and it wouldn’t actually compeat with the PS4.
This, if only for a small %, would change the game and Apple’s reputation in the gaming department in one fell swoop.
