With a growing number of business meetings these days taking place via Skype, Microsoft has made it easier than ever to schedule and join a Skype call in the Outlook iOS app. Version 2.1.3 of the iOS Outlook app adds Skype integration.
Make any meeting a Skype call simply by flicking a switch, then access the call when you need to with just a tap. Now when you say “I’m joining the call now”, you’ll actually mean it. To give it a try, simply turn on the “Skype Meeting” switch when creating or editing an event.
The update also adds a new view designed to provide a clearer sense of your schedule …
Tapping the icon in the top-right corner of your calendar lets you see a new three-day view, as a compromise between the detail of a single day and the overview of a whole week.
Outlook is a free download from iTunes. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and recently gained support for 3D Touch.
Microsoft appears to be on something of a Skype push at present, the company announcing yesterday that it’s bringing free group video calling to iPhone and iPad.

Microsoft is slowly trying to shift people to it’s system and that’s how they plan to overthrow Apple
Skype is available on various operating systems. It means that people using it on different platforms can communicate with each other, which they CAN’T do with FaceTime.
How the hell is that “planning to overthrow Apple”?
Apple does not have a Conference Call system, so this does not compete with Facetime. I use Skype for Business (formerly Lync) because we can set up conference calls with external numbers calling in very easily through Skype, until Apple has some type of business class conference option this has nothing to do with Facetime or VS Apple in ways.
Now the Outlook App, that is truly better than the default IOS Mail app.
Exactly
People would not take that much of a hurdle to compare, that too with application, they will just look for it has it or not. Just as you mention, Conference call system
MS office, skype, outlook, cortana etc, is recently, suddenly became Microsoft’s focus ‘coz maybe since they follow Apple’ s every move, once Steve Jobs told they initially designed iPod not ‘coz to gain profit from hardware but to his greater vision of selling their ecosystem and similarly the iPhone did that with the iPhone. Microsoft is not a worry, for now, but if u keep trying and Apple lacks itself like iWork, MacApp store, Mail, iMessage etc it can be scary sometime in the future
Unfortunately this feature doesn’t work with Skype for Business, only the ‘normal’ Skype. No luck for business users…
